What do you guys think about unemployment in the US, do to many people take advantage of it, should the strongest survive, and should other progams like this be tossed? As many know the us is in horrible debt and paying people money because they can't find a job or are poor doesn't seem like a smart thing to do bec. it takes self perciverence away, the drive to work hard and move up in society, if you don't have to do anything and get paid to do nothing then why would you go through the work of actually working?

But seriously, even though unemployment is often abused, it helps a lot of people get back on their feet. Welfare, on the other hand, presents a few more issues.

Lets just lay this out, unemployment was created to help people get back on their feet after being unemployed for various reasons, so lets say i become unemployed, now instead of looking for a new job i wait until the two to three years of it are up to even start looking for a job, your telling me thats not taking advantage of it?
Again, you obviously know little to nothing about how the unemployment system works.
Firstly you can only use it for a maximum of 2 years, and the length of time you are eligible is in correlation to your length of employment at your last job in which you paid into the unemployment system.
Secondly the funds that you qualify for are a mere portion of what you made previously, and in almost all cases are not nearly enough to continue to support yourself and your family.
Thirdly, while you are receiving unemployment you are required to be actively seeking new employment unless you are on unemployment because you have a medical condition which precludes you from gaining new employment.
Why not? I live a comfortable life, I could afford to give more money up and I many others that could as well. If we don't help each other than we're no better than animals.

Shut up. Seriously go annoy people in other threads, the animals work well together but we stand out because we do anything to help those that are weaker and sickly; natural selection no longer applies to humans.

Don't play the moral card. YOU can help people if YOU want, but you and the government should not force people to help others if they don't want to. That's my moral argument. I don't completely agree with this statement, but there's a lot of truth to it as well.

I guess you are the one that knows very little now, it was recentally changed, i know because i am supported off of unemployment, you get 1-2 years state and then like another year from the feds, as for not being enough to support the familly, my dad went on a cruise with the money he had gotten from the gov. , as for the whole you must check in and look for a new job, they got rid of that recently also now, so you do not have to prove anything to anyone anymore, you just collect your money now, no questions aksed

And as I said, that is in relation to how long you were working. The longer you worked the more money you paid toward unemployment and the more you are entitled to receive as benefit.

Firstly, it was his money to begin with, so good for him getting it back. Secondly cruises are very cheap, especially now with the economy such as it is. You can spend a week on a ship for about $500 which is nothing. Perhaps your home is paid for or a vehicle or two so there is no mortgage/payment due. That makes a huge difference in your monthly finances.

Well that to me is crap, however I suspect it is because of the massive layoffs the government is doing with social services workers, so with fewer workers they would be forced to reduce their workload in order to get anything accomplished.

I also think that is crap but as for the thousands of hispanics and others taking advantage of welfare in my state i think it should be either highly regulated or gotten rid of. Self percoverence is very important and to get rid of that could become the finnal peice to america's downfall.

I agree with that. I see it all the time here in my state as well. But there is a difference in the funding and the requirements for welfare as opposed to unemployment. The welfare system is really what is being manipulated and it is a huge source of frustration to me.

yes, this is completely true. but the weak and sick are automatically at a disadvantage over the healthier ones. example between the natural and human world is a lion/whatever hunt.just as the strong prey on the weak w/ animals, the same applies to humans.there will alway be social classes as long as prejudice and darker emotions are present
Your comparison is moot. You need to actually understand what causes different social classes. I assure you that it's not as simple as one person taking from another. It involves understanding how much effort people put into their lives. What class you are in will depend on how much money you decide to save and how much you spend. There are many variables, and can not be summed up as prey and predator.
There will always be classes as long as you have some humans living more comfortably than others. That's better than everyone being miserable.
that is a very simplified version... my point is that people are animals inside and mostly care for themselves.most people wouldnt stop a random stranger and start talking with them or do a random act of kindness to a stranger eitherbecause they dont find it worthwhile to their own interests. and on social classes, yes, there are many factors.yes, i oversimplified it. but for th emost part it is the circumstances that they were born into i.e a street urchin doesnt have much chance of moving up the social ladder.
