This is a very overused ethics question, but it really is thought provoking.
Question:
Would you steal bread to feed your family?
Information: This bread is from a family who is also struggling to feed themselves. If you don't feed your family, they will die. If you steal bread from the other family, they will also die. There is enough bread to feed your family forever.
Don't ask me about how he carried all that bread, or why can't the family just hide the bread from you. I want serious answers.
If there was an infinite amount of bread that we for some reason could not share, I would be forced to take it. If I was caught in the act and confronted I would then be forced to fight.
My survival over there survival, and better yet it would be the only time I would need to do it.
Ah, thank you. I forgot to mention that you cannot share; there are two children for each family: one boy, one girl.
My answer, I would steal it. I would feed my family, because I can make sure that I raise my children correctly, whereas I can't make sure that the other family that will raise their children correctly.
Ethics is in the eye of the beholder ... anyone would steal in order to feed his family ... and the other family would do the same ... so, in essence, are both families ethical or unethical because they are willing to steal?
