Many of you may, or may not, be fans of today's "Pop" culture "Music". But all of you know what Mainstream Rap sounds like. Ya, it's border line crap. Take Justin Bieber for example. Lets go get some preteen junior high student who can sing like a girl and put him in a video with Usher and throw in some girls too. wow, change my facebook status to dead inside.

But seriously. It really frustrates me to even talk about how Music is being stripped of its originality and verbally raped from all these wanna be stars. Give some black guy who can hit a high note an auto tune and a synthesizer, he'll make millions. Just take a bass line, toss a bunch of chicks singing about sex or something, you have a "music video"?! WTF is that??? *sigh... F@#! you America. f@#! you.

I respect your opinion, but there have been tons of crappy bands over the years that have gotten plenty of airtime, and I really can't think of a single band/musician today that can't be paralleled to one from a couple decades back. Also, the various genres of music have only broadened over the years, so I think all of us have a partially skewed perspective on music, meaning that we criticize and form such strong opinions simply because we have the ability. There is such a wealth of different types of music today that we didn't have in the past, and this allows us to be as choosy as we like.

There were also many new genres coming out of the eighties and a lot of modern band take too much from the older stuff. I don't think all modern music is crap, I just think the old school is much better.

Are we still discussing Pop Music, or are we discussing all genres, in a general sense? Is there an example you can give me?

The OP brought up Justin Beiber, who from what I can tell is a modern manifestation of what was Usher, Justin Timberlake, and Michael Jackson before that. If you are referring strictly to Pop Music, I can completely understand the statement. Pop Music has no reason to deviate from what was created some 50 years ago, and so we are still listening to essentially the same songs that were written way back then.

Music in general especially metal, hardcore, and punk. Look at what's considered metal now. Slipknot, bullet for my valentine, you got to be kidding me, metal core and nu metal suck. Hardcore by today's standards is completely different than what it use to be. Bands like Hatebreed or Converge are definitely nothing like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Black Flag or Minor Threat. Same thing with punk bands like Rise Against have nothing on G.B.H., The Damned or Fear.

That's cool. You named off several bands that I don't care for so I can understand where you're coming from, heh.

*coughBritishAlternativecough*

Sorry there, but this is why I listen to Alternative. You can't go wrong with Coldplay, Snowpatrol, Death Cab for Cutie, Thirteen Senses, and Seabird.

Also, its CAPITALISM. People want to make MONEY. And it happens that they can make alot of MONEY with MUSIC. If you want them to get smart and not having crappy endorsed artist, simply don't buy their music.
