After much internal debate, I've decided to buy a refurbished Arcade, and then buy a 20 Gig hard drive from Ebay. Do you all think this is a good Idea? I haven't actually made the purchase, but I am close to a final decision.

Please leave your thoughts/opinions on my stupidity.

Also: HDMI computer monitor or HDTV?

I would go with the xbox 360 over the other consoles. I have had all three and am now set on the x-box. The slim is a great deal and you wouldn't be going wrong. Plus no matter what you pick they should come witha warranty, so that if something happens to the xbox it is fix able.
Out of a personal opinion it looks like the more serious gamers are using Xbox, the other are using PS3, and the wii is a more family console and much more fun when playing in a group.

If you are a gamer, you also could look at games that are PS3 and Xbox exclusive and go on that. Also, the xbox live is about 50 dollars (IDK i haven't bought one in about a year), while the PS3 is free.

I bought an arcade, new, at best buy in new hampshire, so no tax.

it turns out that with the tax and shipping, a refurbed one that I could have got online (only available online) would have been 41 cents cheaper. I went for the brand new one. Getting a 20 or if I can find a 60 gig hard drive.

My uncle has been so generous as to give me a 21 inch flat screen monitor, HDMI.

so 170 on an xbox and hard drive, monitor for free, not a bad deal.

Wait, since we've got some 360 experts here, I really need to ask - do all 360 models support backwards compatibility so I can play original Xbox games on the 360?

Ok so you are buying a used 360??? That will proably break in a week. IMO you should get a new xbox 360 elite cause it comes with a huge hard drive and a mic so you wont need to worry about buying 1.

And Krizaz, where did you find a $500 32-inch HDTV?

Here

Thats just from a generic Google Search, not from a site I know.

When will you ever need 250 GB of storage? Do the ames automatically download on the system? And is that on the best system you can buy?

The Xbox 360 Controller seams to fit my hand perfectly and i never had hand cramps. When i pick up a Duelshock, it feels so much smaller (that's what she said haha)
I would sugest the New Xbox because the slim is the bomb!

Playing games on a monitor thats 24-in will looks horrendous with a 360, get some sort of monitor or HDTV larger than 30-inch, if you can afford it.

i suggest getting a brand new xbox 360 arcade and then buying a 60gig hard-drive. That's what i did and it works like a charm. Oh, and install ur games to your xbox.
