Well I have a one day break and could not resist the forums, so here I pose the question. Christians always say that the only way to get to heaven is to believe in Jesus Christ. If that is so, then why does the Bible say this?
Proverbs 28:18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
Well me having a straight back seems to seem like it will get me to heaven.
Or, if somehow I broke my back and could no longer walk straight, I could always move to Israel to get saved...
Romans 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Wow. You don't even have to be a Christian to get to there heaven any more. And now I will have to walk with a slouch....I mean, who wants to go to a place were you only sing one song for the whole day?
Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
I'm not good at christian reasoning.. but I think walking upright here means not having the burden of any sin on your shoulders. Those who 'are perverse in their ways' wear that burden and so metaphorically don't 'walk uprightly'. A perfect example that you shouldn't never take the bible literally. IMO keeping your back straight won't bring you to heaven, but it will save you a lot of pain later in life
That begs the same old question, what parts are we to take metaphorical? Is heaven a metaphor? What about the stoning? The ten commandments? You know, for a book of "truth" it seems to be very unclear.
