What most people don't know is that soon after the mother dragon lays her eggs, she leaves. Dragon eggs need to kept somewhere warm and hiden, the most often used location is in a hole in the side of a volcano, as dragon eggs often look like stones. After 1 year inside their shelter, dragon eggs hatch. When they come out they are extremely small, but that might be to their advantage, as smart as they are, they will eat anything smaller then them, including other hatchlings. The mother usually lays between 500 and 1,000 eggs, but due to all of their predators and the fact that most hatchlings are eaten by other hatchlings, only up to about 20 survive. Hatchlings, are green with fur. You can tell what color they will be as an adult by looking at the color of their eyes. The two most common colors are green and blue, and the rarest is red. The first thing hatchlings do is travel in a group to the nearest area of water, due to the fact that they only have extra oxygen for about 3 hours, and they have gills. they then spend the next 5 years hunting underwater.
You all have eaten all other hatchlings and are now 2 inches long and you weigh 1/4 of a pound. You run down the volcano as fast as you can. You get to the water an notice a lot of yum, as your tiny brain would call it.
