As more and more flash games come out, ive been spending less and less time on my actual WII and spending more time playing these free online games and discussing them. Do you think, as more and more flash games are released, and they get better and better, that they might someday overshadow regular systems?

Casual gaming will never be a substitute for hardcore gaming. I can play casual games for a while, but I don't stick with any single game for more than a few days, unless they're epic. However, console games can keep you occupied for weeks or more. Take GTA: San Andreas, for example. The sheer size of that game can keep you busy for weeks on end. Marathon gaming isn't really possible with casual games.

This coming from a hardcore gamer, though.

I guess thats true. But remember, in the future, casual games will become more and more advanced. I mean look at thing thing 4, Its got plenty of unlockables. That game could keep you busy for hours on end.

Hours, yes. Weeks? Not likely. Not unless it's got a very simple arcade-style mechanic. And even still, those are only good in 1 or 2 hour doses. Full-scale games can keep you occupied for days on end without food or sleep.

Yes NOW they do. But game makers are starting to run out of ideas, same with movies. Games are turning more the same. Unlockable content will keep the repetitivity at bay for a while, but for how long?

"Without food or sleep", I like that touch.

Personally I doubt flash games will ever overpower console games. I mean, look at SSBB. That game has a butt-load of unlockables, amongst other things, that can keep you playing for, well "days on end without food or sleep".

Well, i dont mean anytime soon. But eventually, i think it will. Despite console games being more epic and accesible, Flash games have the upper hand on creativity. And as unlockables eventually fade, the creativity will still be there. And as computers become more advanced, adding touch and motion technology, flash games will become more advanced. Not to mention that it will be YEARS until the next game system.

You seem to think that console game designers will run out of ideas. But what about flash game designers, they won't run out of ideas either? Sure, they will still have ideas, but it will be for some crappy game that nobody likes.

The way I see it, eventually console game designers will run out of ideas, but that equally goes for the flash game designers.

but dont forget, te console makers have a certain set of buttons to deal with. Flashers have a whole keyboard, not to mention that the computer is evolving fast.

But full-scale games don't just come out for console - Orange Box and RTS games FTW. They can make use of the evolving technology of PCs, even when traditional consoles can't. And who's to say new consoles won't be released for a few years? The PS4 is already under consideration.

Flash games are probably aren't gonna overcome console games in a while (neverless will ever). Unlike Free online flash games, console games require money to make and publish, which most likely means was put more effort than Free online flash games, which creators for the flash games did it either for fun or popularity. Though Flash creators maybe did put some money into making games (I mean the sofware which requires money that they use).

Evidence for this is the size and the sheer expansion of the gaming market- it used to be a niche but is now the mainstream, and will continue to be very much so for a good time to come.

This effect has spilled over to casual gaming to an extent. But the structure of the games and the experience is completely different due to the greater versatility of console gaming. Flash, being a multimedia tool as opposed to a platform, has its own limitations, especially in terms of generating genuine 3D engines, which is already well established on dedicated games.

By the time things such as Flash have developed to the extent that one can make games comparable to the best performing videogame entertainment (hahahahaha, oh god, what an archaic phrase), can you really call it casual gaming? As I see it, also, casual gaming is easier to get into but still limited. The motives can also be different- casual gaming is more the kind of gaming to do as a distraction, hardcore gamers tend to construct more of their lives around gaming deliberately.

This coming from a casual gamer, by the way :P

The gaming market is part of the mainstream, sure. But hardcore gamers are still a select few, those people who you see one day purchasing a new game, then don't see leaving their house for two weeks. In fact, it was because of my gaming habit that I was relieved of the burden of my employment. (Well, actually I quit cuz they weren't giving me enough hours, but I spent all my time gaming).

Even with the influx of flash games and the increase in quality, I do not believe that they will overshadow console games. I have many friends who only play console games because they prefer them to the computer. Also, I have nieces and nephews that would be allowed to play console games over computer games, due to the safety of console games over computer ones (meaning you cant get viruses or give out personal info over *most* console games).

I like flash games for something quick and fun to do, but I prefer console or full computer games for the real immersion play.
