These small differences are for changing from wood knight to iron knight and gold knight. When you are moving from one rank to another, the difference is usually greater. So it may only take 800 AP to go from iron duke to gold duke, but it takes 1250 AP to get from gold duke to wood prince. Rank changes are much more prestigious than color changes.
Back to the foreign language deal... I wish there could be some way that we could tell others that this is an English-only site. Maybe from the sheer English text presented everywhere? I'm not sure.
