A classic argument. State whether you think free will exists or does not and give your argument.

First of all, this is a dead topic.

Second of all, how can you say that there's no free will? Do you choose what clothes you wear in the morning? Do you choose when you do your homework? You choose sooo many things in life, how could you say no?

Choosing something and actually achieving something are two TOTALLY different things. I have chosen a classic Gibson Explorer with a natural finish, but there's no way in hell I'll get one!

You choose based on past experience in life. If you always did your homework, are you going to do your homework the next day? Nope, unless something changes your thought, perhaps a friend. No free will.
Your brain works in a certain way and you cant control that.

I always did my homework right when I got home from school in my early years, but now I CHOOSE to do it the morning of, haha. That is a choice. Nothing influenced me to lay it off, I just chose not to do it then.

Free will definitely exists.
@ Drace- You theory is good, but many people have life experiences that do not affect them at all. Your basing your theory on the personality trait that people want to be like everyone else. I don't, I have life experiences that don't affect my choice. You are talking about linear history, when you put your hand on a hot stove, you burn your hand, and chances are that you won't do it again. you may have the WILL to do it, but you won't because the stove caused you harm. You have free will over you decisions. No one told me that I had to eat dinner tonight, it was my free will that willed me to do it. no one told me to wear a t- shirt and jeans today, even though it was 83 outside, it was my free will that WILLED me to do it.

I doubt it. There must of been something. I'm not just going to get off and run around the house when I'm on the computer.

You do things for a reason.

That's because you don't choose to do that. I COULD do that, and there's nothing stopping me, but I choose not to. I think i'll go run up the stairs real fast....now I'm back. I chose to do that, but I had no reason behind it.

I never said every life experience has to affect you.

What happens is that your "choices" outline your future events, and at one point, some "force" can change your choice.

Answer this.
Why do you chose to do certain things. You did not just chose to wear your jeans for no reason.

See if I put someone with a different life experience in your position, he wouldn't have worn jeans. If I put another guy in your position, he might just stay home...

Your decisions are controlled by life experiences.

I think that free will does exist, just people are smart enough to automatically deny half of their infinite options. But, there are a rare few that take advantage of free will and end up getting killed.

Living life.

__

Someone who is an animal lover will choose to get mad at someone who is
being aggressive with their pet, but he doesn't have to. Its a choice, but because this person is an animal lover he will pick that choice.

Choices just point out which way you could have gone. COULD HAVE, but you won't go certain ways because of certain things.

Answer this.
Why do you chose to do certain things. You did not just chose to wear your jeans for no reason.

Well I chose to wear jeans because it is cold. I may not WANT to wear them, or I might not WANT to go outside, but I choose to do so. I don't WANT to go to school at all, and I could easily leave whenever I wanted, but I choose not to because I need to learn. This is my future, and I don't want to ruin it.

See if I put someone with a different life experience in your position, he wouldn't have worn jeans. If I put another guy in your position, he might just stay home...

You kind of contradicted yourself there. That other guy chooses to stay home. Not because of his lifestyle. He just chooses not to.

There you go!
You just trapped yourself. You want to learn because of life experience .

Someone might not want to learn because of they life experience.
