all you guys need to know that a dog was shot by a police man for playing with his dog not cool and the guy was like did you just shoot my dog with a taser and the cop said no i just killed him the cop is going to court and i think he should get the death penalty
The policeman will be given charges, but it is not serious enough of a crime to be given the death penalty. I don't know the laws of whichever state the crime took place in, but a year in prison sounds about right. After all, it's just a dog, not a human.
It would also help if we had citations. Links. URLS. Papers. Something to show us what happened.
Doesn't matter how sweet and innocent the dog was, I'm sure he had some reason to shoot it, if he felt threatened by it, you don't have much time to react, instincts told him to protect his family, so he did that.
Death penalty is a bit heavy, even a prison sentence, he should just be fined a small amount for the mistake, if it was an honest mistake, to pay for funeral or a new dog, whatever.
The neighbors seem to think that the dog was very gentle and kind, but even if the dog did bite the officers dog, that isn't all that surprising. Dogs do play around and its possible that is was just playful biting. I agree the dog should have been better trained or the owner not have it approach strangers, but to shoot the dog was a bit over the top if you ask me.
I lol'd - dude, it's just a dog. I'm against animal cruelty - dude should be locked up for a few years at least. However, death penalty? A tad harsh. You could taser him a few times though in prison.
Anyway, it was just one dog - get over it. Thousands are run over, drowned and killed in miscellaneous other ways every year - do people care about those? Nope.

Avorne, this OP did care. I'm sure you've played with your neighbors animals, we all have. If the OP watched the cop shot the dog that's very traumatic.
To: the OP, This cop was hiding behind a badge and not acting like a role model citizen. I agree the Freakenstein, this crime isn't severe enough to warrant the death penalty but he should have to turn over his badge for a month, without pay while serving community service at the county animal shelter. I think mucking out the animal pens will humble him, sufficiently but he should be made to buy your friend a replacement dog.
I agree that's traumatic but so is running over a dog or seeing a run over corpse on the side of the road.
Anyway, I never said that the cop didn't deserve punishment. As I said he shouldn't of done it but you can't do much about it now besides take appropriate action - which the death penalty isn't for the people suggesting it.
Agreed, and well said, Avorne. I thought this was your only post.
Please pardon my errors with first comment: ...as the cop shot, and ... I agree with Freakenstein... Since I commented, I read the article and this off duty Homeland Security officer sounds like he's been getting threats so his name's being withheld. It also sounds like to me that he's done this sort of thing before since there is a criminal investigation. I didn't think shooting a dog was a criminal offense? Perhaps discharging his gun in public is the crime? Any hoo, keep us posted, I'm curious to see how this plays out.
