Games on The popular or featured board tend to stay up there for a long time removing others right to have a turn on the board. Good games should be there, but not forever. Look at "One Button Bob" that games been up there for months.
Games remaining on the board for so long may put off flash game makers from there dream of getting a game on the board. I'm not saying that bad games should get a spot, but that big company games shouldn't remain at the top.
My suggestion is that games on the board should have increasing difficulty in staying up there. Like say if they remain there for a day they should need more plays than the game behind them by say 100, then 200, then 400, then 800, etc.
It would be appreciated if this thread would be replied to so I know how people feel about my idea.
Cursed Treasure is from Iriysoft, so that is not from AG, but it's on the most-popular board. Gemcraft is from Gameinabottle. So it's safe to say that the popular board is not entirely AG-biased.
It takes a special kind of game to be on the popular board. Hands of War had a 9.1/10 highest rating, but it never was on Adventure's popular column. Not only must it be a good game, but it must be one to be highly-discussed among AG players. It must be a game that many people would want to play.
There were popular games that aren't on that column that used to be. It's just that they were replaced by other popular games. It usually covers all genres, so there won't be 6-8 action games crowding it. That said, it is usually 1-2 games of each genre that are advertised on the popular board. If one is great and it doesn't make that column, it may have a chance of making the genre's popular board. I'm not sure how the process works; the admins do the work of replacing games and putting them there; I'm sure there isn't a sort of criteria for it, just that it's a popular game to play.
Usually the games get on that list because the developers (the ones with AG staff powers) put them there to promote their games. The games not created by an AG staff member usually get up there due to certain sponsorships.
"Popular Games" isn't an appropriate title for the list, though. "Featured Games" at least doesn't imply that the game gained popularity all by itself.
