Yep, you heard it. On August 23rd of 2010, after fighting both a fungus and moth infection, the horse-chestnut tree that Anne Frank often wrote about in her diary fell during a storm. Here's an excerpt:

"18th April 1944:

April is glorious, not too hot and not too cold, with occasional light showers. Our chestnut tree is in leaf, and here and there you can already see a few small blossoms."

Also back in January 11th 2010, Miep Gies, a dutch woman who helped hide the Franks died about one month shy of her 101st birthday. Tell how you think about this.

we really dont care

That's kind of mean.
Anne Frank's diary is a staple of literature and of WW2 knowledge. This is a sad occurrence, but you know it's going to happen anyway. WW2 was something like 70 years ago, so stuff like this is gonna happen sometime. It's sad that the chestnut tree fell, but it lasted this long.

my fault but a tree is a tree

It's insensitive though.
It was in Anne Frank's diary...it's like this; you have, let's say, a dog. That dog hangs out with you all the time during a frightening war that destroys your life. You write a diary which becomes a staple of literature to this day, about that very day in which your pet is one of your only comforts. The dog then dies.
A dog is a dog. Doesn't matter.

Okay emagine if there was a mass slaughter and 6 million people were kill.
Emagine if someone wrote a book to help us better understand this.
Emagine if they sat under a certant tree when she did.
that tree wasn't just a tree it was a piece of history

I don't know if you have read Ann Franks diary but she is a little bitch in it, and she is a lesbian, just pointing that out lol. What annoyed me the most is that she dies of typhoid after having this epic adventure. But in the end its just a tree, people wright about trees all the time its not like this tree was a significant part of her life, i would be more devestated if her origianl diary was destroyed.

And so time passes onward. As someone who enjoys studying WWII I find that anything conected to it that passes beyond our grasp is a loss to the future. It is not merely a tree but a symbol of Anne Frank.

Pfft, it's only a single tree - burn it and move on. Who cares about Anne Frank sitting under some tree?

Sh*t happens. And in this case, had to happen once. Still, it's an important symbol for some people who's gone now.

Imagine if the people writing these remorseless comments actually had an education! O.o

The only reason I find Anne Frank worthy of any note at all is that she was sold out by the people she was hiding with - an example of human douchebaggery (notwithstanding the whole 'Nazi murderers' thing too). I hardly see how she changed the course of the war and so she wasn't important at all.

In a way it shows that the world is moving on, I thing that tree was a symbol of the holocaust and it shows that slowly but surely the wounds suffered from this horrendous and unfortunate event are healing.

Its a diary she didnt write it for it to become a best seller, she wrote it to pass the time.

Imagine if you wern't a biased pig?

wow, hornet nest in here. my feelings on thw subject: im sorry i couldn't cut it down and mill it, then turn it into furniture and make money myself. really, you think anne frank gave a damn about a friggin tree??? i think she might have been a little more preoccupied with the nazis at the door. maybe she looked at it as a pretty thing, that was unaffected by the wars, and struggles of man, but do think she was all "oh shit im dying, i wonder if the tree is leafed out right now.................."
