is reality real??? can it be confirmed that things can and do actually materially exist, and that everything isn't just like a giant video game like 'The Sims'? how could we ever tell if something was ever telling us to do something, like in a game??? building on that, could there also be no 'free will' if so?
"what is real? how do you define real?If real is what you can see, hear, taste and smell then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain". yes I just quoted the matrix.
I do believe that there is a reality - a world out there, a flat, solid, existing world, and that each person, in their desperation for a more exciting life, has developed their own take on it - one man's fun is another man's work, so which one is deluded? It's all circles and basket-weaving to me, but if you manage to find your way through the delusions and illusions feel free to give me a call, I'm probably knee-deep in my own reality - albeit a very, very thin one
I ALMOST did my thesis the notion that we are all really just a brain in a vat.
So they (religious nuts) are essentially using the arguments involving perception to discredit the idea that god is not real when it almost works the other way... i.e. saying you cannot prove that we are not just brainz in jarz (name of the electronic music group im in btw, lol...) is also saying you cannot prove god, so stop this insanity and lets focus on life... then the nut goes "uh uhhhh, this just prooooves god is real" and you sit there thinkin, did they really take what I sayin on a level head or did they just instantly form a counter argument, essentially becoming a devils advocate (oh the irony) so they can avoid questioning their own beliefs?
You should know better then to ask to prove a negative.
but can we say in the world, we exist, or is this not a reality?
The argument of weather this is real or not is moot, this is all we have to go on. This is the existence where we all interact with each other. This is the existence we can achieve repeatable results independent of one another. Through study and application of this existence we are capable producing workable solutions that benefit us.
fair enough fair enough, but can we truly prove that we exist, and we know what is true reality? its a yes or no question.
First of all, define we. Who, or what are you calling we? Do you mean we as anatomical body unit, or we as a neurological profile, our mind? Then define what is true reality. What do you expect true reality to be? Is it what we perceive?
After you defined these, maybe I'll be able to tell my opinion on a reasonable basis.
