is reality real??? can it be confirmed that things can and do actually materially exist, and that everything isn't just like a giant video game like 'The Sims'? how could we ever tell if something was ever telling us to do something, like in a game??? building on that, could there also be no 'free will' if so?
Hum, your definition of reality is somehow incomplete and diffuse, but ok.. According to your definition of 'we', I would say that 'we' exist as minds. Our conscience has to be real since we can use it, interact with things, we can reflect on things etc. Now, if I take the movie Matrix as an example, we can't prove that what we perceive is what really happens, we only can be sure that we receive external inputs. What causes these inputs are not definitely and objectively deduceable. So it's kinda a Yes and No answer
fair enough fair enough, but can we truly prove that we exist, and we know what is true reality? its a yes or no question.
The problem is your looking for an absolute answer when there is non. There will always be certain degrees of uncertainty. So all I can do is prove to you that we exist within a reasonable degree of certainty.
lmfao, i know, i didnt think i worded it right, i cant seem to get it and woowwww, you would say yes and know, but i know what youre talking about, we do have a useable concience, and we can understand the rational order of things with our minds, therefore we must be real....... right...... or is this only given to us to make us think we are real but really, we are all subject to some others subconcious?

bingo! we can never be certain, cuz there will and there has to always be uncertainty, but we can prove parts of certainty, therefore, we are... both real, and not. real: everything about us; unreal, our dreams etc, the untangable and abstract things.

It doesn't really matter because this is the context in which we exist. If we are just the product of another entities mind then what we experience is in the context to us real.
that makes sense, alrighty, imma sum this up.. in our reality, with our experiences, it is real, what we know, is real because we dont know any different. if it isnt real, we do not know, and therefore, we are bissfully ignorant to that fact. but as of what we know, reality is real.
You should know better then to ask to prove a negative.
Lol, I do, but I get lazy sometimes and my 5 year old pops out.
i think reality is real
but what if the thoughts you think are not yours?
Whether the thoughts are our own or not doesnt make a difference.
I kinda feel the OP needs clarity, because if were talking about matrix style reality then its kinda restricted i.e. Its the reality I perceive fake and/or not the ultimate reality, is my body a human battery, a brain in a jar or a figment of imagination etc...
If we mean in a total and open ended way then...
Regardless of what "this" is and regardless of perception telling us the truth about our surroundings, reality just is. No matter if its a computer simulation etc. its still a real computer simulation.
Im interested in our perceptions tho and I truly think we see but a fraction of "reality" and I do believe there are other plains of existence, maybe life and death are merely two of these. Not saying you can be concious in the plain of "death" but its real as far as I could philosophise. Some plains of existence are merely energy, I remember reading articles on dimensions, interesting stuff.
