I have read a few things in the paper as well as heard from my military buddies that the new deadline for troop withdraw is sometime next year. I'm not sure if this is correct or not as I do not watch news because I can not handle the constant stream of lies (on both parties). I'm curious if you all think it would be a good idea to withdraw the troops.

This is a very hard question to answer. It would clearly be beneficial to us if we pulled our troops out of Iraq, as we take away the risk of further casualties. However, there are citizens there that need help and we and other allies are the only ones that can offer assistance.

Three objectives come to mind when I think of this. We need to eliminate those that are a threat to the citizens of Iraq. We need to establish peace and order in Iraq, by making it a nation free from oppressive forces. We need to train the volunteer citizens of Iraq to defend themselves, if bad comes to worse and we are not there. The only way to do these things is if we have soldiers and officials there to help. Casualties will thus continue to rise.

All in all, it is a coin-toss decision, one that only a president can make.

Ehh, The Middle East is not very stable because the Taliban and other extremists are still doing their extreme things. Until we train the Iraqi police to be efficient and capable of protecting their country, we should keep some troops there.

I agree, while I do not want anymore casualties in the war I think if we withdrew our troops a lot of progress would be lost. I also think that it gives our enemies the mind set of "We only have to hold out this much longer" and is kind of a light at the end of the tunnel for them.

Well, it is a good thing to pull the troops out and let them return home as heros and to see their families again, but we don't want all of the casualties and death there go to waist and let the Taliban run the middle east. We should finish the job by training the iraqi police force first.

Australia has already pulled there troops out so thats good. There is no way anyone is going to win in this war, its a Gurrila war and with the USA track record all the insergents need to do is kill enough soilders so the war loses public opinion.

Its a VERY SIMPLE question to answer once you understand the works of American Imperialism and the context of the war.

Who gives a damn about these countries. Just let them destroy themselves instead of bringing the United States into the mix. The only reason the United States involves itself in these conflicts is to show we still have military capabilities, and to take advantage of the natural resources that will benefit it. We need to learn to take care of ourselves. Forget Iraq, sometimes it's okay just to have these people get a dictator; Sadam had the country under control, and no Taliban.

Just remembered a old news video with Obama commiting to pull all Amercian troops out of Iraq in 5 years or something like that please correct me, so if the insurgents can hold out till then they will eventually win, unless the US continue to fund and train the Iraq army after there gone.

Hmmm I'm not sure. All my buddies keep saying everyone is packing up and headed home sometime next year. I will have to double check the scuttlebutt as well.
