That's why it's so inexpensive. Elite schools usually are, because they get tons of money in donations from alumni. Rice, for instance, is one of the best deals in the country and it's also on par with Stanford. If you get into a super elite school, but can't afford it, the school will find a way to let you attend.
For instance, Harvard charges over 50k for tuition, per year. *gasp*
BUT they also hand out an average of 40k worth of grants per student.
Through in another 10k worth of scholarships (it's not like a Harvard student would have a hard time getting those) and you have a free ride to Harvard.
So, all you have to do is go to Harvard. Problem solved.
