Humans and the Hive, a strange, reptilian-like species, have been at war for hundreds of years now... to no avail. both sides, having equal or greater amounts of technology, not much has been gained for the past few centuries, with peace talks ending in ambassador's heads being sent home in a box. Our 'relationship' with them is an extremely bitter, bloody one, with neither side willing to settle to a peace compromise, nor willing to give up any of their own gains for peace.
Your spaceship, a sleek, small cargo ship, has just landed on a 'dead' planet. Last contact with the former human inhabitants was lost 7 months ago, and what happened is unknown. completely unknown. a Lush forested planet, your ship lands in a clearing of strange flowers and grasses. The teams of Space Marines, scientists, laborers, and engineers immediately unload.
Your mission? find teh lost colony, explore it, and see if they are still there. If they are alive and well, pack up and return back to the nearby Cruiser, Sunbeam. Secondary objective, see if the Hive has anything to do with this
and if the colony isn't alive and well, colonize it yourself until reinforcements arrive.

This is along the lines of an sci-fi, so if you no likez those games, too bad.
You are NOT the captain and therefore leader of the mission, you are a Space Marine. but you might be a leader :P
Captain Name:Jean-Luc Picard Ship Name: S.S. Enterprise (big sci fi nerd :P) Ship type: Sloop class cargo Personnel: 175 space marines, 50 scientists, 200 laborers, 60 engineers, 30 crew, 250 civilians/tourist Cargo: Some cattle, chickens, construction tools, and food/drink ( 5 months)
the tourists shyly look around at all the forest. most of the area is a massive, indifferent forest, your marines say, and there is little animal life here.
