I was on the yahoo page and I see the news, apparently a bomb in Pakistan had killed 54 people, and it has some connection to the point I'm saying (Taliban threatening US)
This is a good thing, spread a bit o that opimisim around while your at it, but expect heavy opposition...
As for the corruption part, I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. Our politics?
Well thats the funny thing about corruption, it goes waaaay deeper than just one aspect of our society. Politicians have interests and lobby for companies, companies have friends in the political ring, some people really are not nice and indirectly allow dealing of weapons and drugs with their funding and they know about it and profit from it, both within business and politik. This is not conspiracy stuff, these people are real and have no morals on such matters. When your flying high you cant see the ants for the clouds.
Democracy eh?
Aye... Iv never seen democracy as a ruling device nor have I seen it work exept in a game with no stakes or between good people. Democracy allows corruption by its very nature because it relies of people fighting fairly.
I'd say our political system is less susceptible to corruption due to our statute laws on parliamentary donations. That said, with the decline in membership of political parties, they have to rely more and more on non doms these days.
I don't know. What you say is certainly a danger, I think it is yet to be seen how far Yank our system will go.

Or rather unfairly. Even though I don't like lots of his ideas, Chomsky outlines the defects of democracy very well in his book 'the manufacturing of consent', where he points out that democracy is only properly functional if there is an equal system of information distribution. Due to modern media there is always a disconnect between what is reported and the truth, but more importantly that the politicians have cleverly formed a symbiotic relationship with the press which helps them spin things.
The Campbell/Mandlesons of this world truly are the paymasters. They understand that if you make the news you control the news.

In my view its up to us to talk to people and make sure they realise the fine line we tread right now. Most people I know are aware and agree but then I usually surround myself with open people so I really dont talk to die hard politik now people exept online.

Makes me think of the advisers of old kings, Im pretty sure most of them wielded the power then, and now.
Well, people don't think straight, look at the present now, it's absolutely crap. In the Philippines, our past president have been stealing from the countries money, and now our government isn't the best and we owe debt to things we didn't do.
This is what I fear of leaders who can't handle power.
