i'm sure we can all agree that power corrupts absolutely, therefore i want to know what you would do if you had the power to do anything within the realm of reality on this planet. this power could be : religious power, like the pope has and has used for a long time, or political power, like the lovely U.S. leaders, even world power, the power to kill anyone, imprison anyone, or make anyone a leader of their own people. i really want some interesting ideas on this one. a good place to start would be what do u think is wrong in the world? And how would you fix it given the power you desire to do so with?
also i kinda want to know if you think you could or would be corrupted by the power you choose, if so why? and how can others avoid being corrupted.
Great job stereotyping. Power doesn't corrupt people, people corrupt power. We all can agree that there are people like Bill Gates, Abe Lincoln, and many other leaders who use power correctly. Its the person who is corrupt, such as Hitler and Stalin, who use the power to there advantage. The reason people with more power, such as dictators, are more corrupt is the way they achieve power. It is rather difficult to achieve power in a peaceful fashion, thus the more corrupt people end up being dictators.
Now if I had absolute power? I would make earth a paradise. I would eliminate death. I would then make earth huge, and continuously growing to give every earthling a planet's worth of land. Then I would do the same for every other planet, eventually connecting them. Finally I would make my own palace, the size of several planets, and make it a paradise fit for me.
The Envy, The Lust, and The Greed i believe are enough to corrupt, obtaining the power would remove whatever mental stability i have remaining. Of course i would construct a giant tower with a monument to my power and watch the pathetic humans kill each other, because you know, my absolute power would let me develop a superiority to what i am of now.
i'm sure we can all agree that power corrupts absolutely,
Only if you're an anarchist. I'm sure most would agree with Lord Acton's famous hypothesis that power corrupts and that only absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is an important distinction to make as it defines your view of human nature.
To answer your second question, I think that the biggest challenge facing the world today is global warming. If I were in the position to do so as Prime Minister I'd have a complete overhaul of the current taxation system, shifting it from income to indirect carbon related taxation and invest heavily in HEP and wind to create an energy self sufficient Britain, a very real possibility that merely lacks resources and political will.
also i kinda want to know if you think you could or would be corrupted by the power you choose, if so why? and how can others avoid being corrupted.
With my admittedly selfless goal in mind I doubt the danger for me is corruption, rather a watering down of my original policy plan to appease the nay sayers and so called 'ragmatists'.
As for your final question, the context with which you asked it makes it impossible to give a generalised answer. Corruption is not a certainty. It's always a personal ethical battle with oneself, not an unstoppable force which inevitably occurs when people reach positions of power. For all the images of Nazi/Soviet oppression which have been drummed into us there have been plenty of great leaders who did not succumb to the vices of power and who achieved great things. Historians however, and somewhat understandably I might add, focus more upon the dramatic tradgedies of the past than on the dramatic achievements.
idiots, you all missed the point completely, except for paradoxymoron, legend_beast, and maybe subZero131(cant tell if its sarcasm). of course i should have supposed that you wouldn't actually try to understand, but more just pick apart my question. how about next time i pos tsomething, and you want to just tell me why its wrong, you shove it, and move on. i am so dissapointed right now its crazy.
and 314d1, your idea sounds so much like the celestial kindom, the third and highest level of heaven according to the mormons.
We all can agree that there are people like Bill Gates, Abe Lincoln, and many other leaders who use power correctly.
I actually agree with you there, corrupt people just end up in power because they know how to get money. The people who really care about their country are working a 9 to 5 living pay check to pay check.
the point i was getting at is, not if you worked your way to the power, but if the power was given to you, instantly, what would you do with it, and i don't want to hear about how youd have all the kittens and puppies in a mansion, so you could cuddle them all the time.
I don't mean to rain on your parade but isnt the saying, abosulte power courupts.
I would like to think of myself as not being corrupt but meh, if i was the head of a state greed would be one of the bigs things, whats wrong with passing a bill that doesnt really hurt anyone but dramiticly increases someones wealth? Coruption cant be avoided but there are some things can the people can to to limit it, higher wages would reduce the need to become croupt and also letting the people vote.
If I had the power, I'm ashamed to say that I would simply do what the people tell me to - be a true democracy, rather then pursuing my own ends. I would literally just form myself to be a tool of their means, as it was originally meant to be. Which is why I never want to be in power.
