Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal? If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high. There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.
lets put it this way if a child who loves candy is suddenly banned from eating candy his need will get increasingly high and he will start to steal candy. now replace that child with a 18 year old teen and that candy with cigarettes now do you get the picture?
in the matter of fact I have read some studies that the stronger drugs such as heroine and cocaine and so...kills your brain cells..and no I can't prove this 'cos I don't remember where it was.
as for this
A very small percentage of them are full blown addicts.
is not true..not in europe anyhow..and it is very childish to think so. Also I have friends who have gotten out of using drugs...and I can assure you that they are as dumb as a shoe...and only because of the drugs..
and you say that you have not seen how the drug users (speaking about hard drugs) kinda loses their feelings and sense of empathy.
But I do admit that marijuana for example is healthier that a normal cigarette. And this has also been researched

Alcohol kills your brain cells to. In fact, it can cause dementia.
This took me a while to find buried in the world events forums, but here's an old thread I made about the legalisation of drugs.
is not true..not in europe anyhow..and it is very childish to think so.
I'll just repeat what I said in the thread I linked to regarding this.
Of the number of people that take drugs, only a very small proportion ever become addicts, although the smaller the drug, the smaller the amount of users and the higher the addict rate, but even with cocaine and heroin addicts are still in the minority: of the estimated 3.7 million cocaine addicts in America, about 1/3rd (1.2 million) use them once a month, with 600,000 using them more than once a week, proportionally a small figure. With regards to heroin, in the US there are around 1.2 million heroin users and around one sixth (208,000) of them are classified as addicts.
It's not childish to look at the facts.
Anyway, read the thread I linked if you want to know my full views on drugs and why they should be legalised. Feel free to argue against it.
yes alcohol kills brain cells...but not as much as drugs...and did you know that drugs can make you...what's the word...when you know the brains kinda die but you still live..when you become a vegetable.
and those are US counts..so with a larger scale..the addicts to those who may smoke a joint once a month is not a minority...and if a person once tries some weak drug..so he is not seen as a user...so basically all who use regularly are addicts..'cos they can't do without.. but still even if we forget about the addiction..
so the drugs do make people lose control of themselves and they start seeing lions and bears...(happens to those who drink too much also)...but still...in europe..or Scandinavia anyhow...about 3/4 drug users carries guns...so when these people start to fight with each other about some money or drug issues...and who owes who...so it is kinda dangerous...and drug related crimes are more vicious and larger in numbers than other crimes. and yet again I do not have the links to my information source...so basically you do not need to believe me :P but that is how it goes and that is why I think that drugs should stay illegal...I rest my case

Alcohol can do that too. Oh, and before we forget, alcohol is a drug.

All who regularly use are not addicts. At least not according to most definitions. All the people I know who take drugs are not addicts, and I live in the UK, which has the highest drug addiction rates in Europe.

I do believe you, still, sources would be nice.
Even taking your stats to be true, legalising would be the best option. It would eliminate the gun crime surrounding drugs for one thing, if the price was set at the right level.
People forget that a lot of the theory behind legalisation has the best ineterests of the users and addicts at heart. Cna you honestly tell me, being able to use clean needles, have proper, regular medical assessments and not having to deal with drug dealers would be a bad thing.
Consider the vast amounts spent on drug prohibition. $40 billion per year in the US alone. Think of all the rehabilitation centres and education centres which could be created, thus making drugs safer for the users and reducing the negative externalities they impose on society.
ummm...yes alcohol is a drug...and in Finland the drug users get free clean needles...they just need to go to the pharmacy and ask...that has brought the venereal diseases down quite well...but still I do not believe that legalizing drugs will end the gun fights between the users...and are you saying that all drug users that you know use heroine, cocaine or crack or something...'cos I'm not personally counting weed smokers as drug users in the same way..so we leave them out of this. and if we speak only of the strong drugs ('cos you want to free those also) so you can't really make them any safer..they will still mess up your head :P
There was a documentary on DK television some days ago, about drug users. Not because they were using drugs, but because3 they wanted to get out of it put could not. The pushers did everything to keep these people in the herd, everything from making them pay outrageous large bills (without them ever being able to pay off, because there was always a new bill), cutting off fingers if they did not pay, there was a case with a young woman being beaten up and raped because she wanted to be clean and focus on her studies. After that, she was too afraid to leave. This makes me think: First of all, it is not always the drugs that is the problem, it is the people taking it and the people redistributing it. The people taking it, because they suddenly is part of your group of friends, and then can pressure you back into an abuse, if you are trying to get or stay clean. The example with the young woman continues: Finally her parents forced her to get clean and leave the "friends" she had gotten in the drug environment, but one day to a party, one of her "old friends" showed up and tried to make her go back to using drugs. Not forcing her, but trying to persuade her. This lead to that guy being beaten up, because she told her other friends, and the woman as well as the friends got sentences for jail and bills. None of the pushers ever got charged. And this leads to the people who redistribute the drugs. In the documentary, the journalists talked with a man who had left his job as a pusher. He as well had been threatened to keep doing what he did. He could tell why the pushers did this, instead of just letting them go: Pure lazyness. If one left the herd, they would have to work for the money and use time on finding new people to introduce to the drugs, instead of sitting at home and do nothing. These people would cut fingers off people who did not pay, who raped a girl because she wanted out.. They did it because they were too lazy to do anything else.
As FireFly stated, there is a rather small amount of drug users that abuse drugs. The others just use it for parties or Exams or the like, but chances are that they get more and more use to taking these drugs, and suddenly end up abusing them as well. On the other hand, there is a chance that they will realize this downwards spiral and stop it before it is too late, but if pushers everywhere is like the pushers in Denmark, do they have a chance of getting out of it?
I guess, if drugs were legal and you could go to different places to get these drugs, instead of going to a pusher, the drug problem would not be a problem. Sorry for this comparison: It is like people with AIDS or HIV going to clinics. Not because it is "Oh noes!" and everything, but because these clinics can give them advice on what to do and how to live with the illness. If drug abusers/users could go to some government or private financed clinic to get the drugs, they could get advice as well, maybe even help on how to get out, and they would be less likely to be hindered by pushers..
And I think I will stop there, as I have not read the entire thread, and am not sure if I know what I am talking about.
Last thing, though, just a comment on the plagiarism: I usually check every post that seems off conversation, especially if the post is medium or long. Because I am terrible suspicious.
are you saying that all drug users that you know use heroine, cocaine or crack or something...'
Quite a few of the people I know take either cocaine or MDMA (ecstasy). For better or worse, they are a big part of dance music culture, at least here in the UK.
and if we speak only of the strong drugs ('cos you want to free those also) so you can't really make them any safer..they will still mess up your head :P
That's another benefit that could be brought about by legalisation. Legitimate pharmacuetical companies would be able to do proper research on harder drugs, enhancing the highs and decreasing the lows. As it stands now, there is no real financial incentive to invest in that kind of research.
There's a sticky at this top of the section called "Proper Citation". I oughtta change the title of that...
Seconded. Most people who are immature enough to copy and paste entire articles probably have no idea what it means.
Well i have to defend Firefly with this... Again... lol. First off I believe MJ isn't a drug. Why? Because an overdose on any drug can kill you. No matter how much MJ you smoke, you can't die from it. You might think the person is dead, but the guy is just probably sleeping, and will wake up in an hour or so and eat all the food around him lol. For instance tylonel and advil. You take to much of those, and you will die. Childrens advil is the worst. People don't know how much to feed the child and end up overdosing them, killing them. Secondly you can't get addicted to MJ. It is impossible. There is no addicting chemicals, or any addicting products involved in MJ. The fact that police tell us stories of people dying from smoking MJ is only the fact that they are desperate to try and stop people from smoking up. Thirdly Weed is a plant. It has no drug qualities, any multiple added chemicals... Nothing at all that a normal drug has. It is smoked by itself. What are the sideeffects..... Well hunger, happiness, and laughing... If the whole world smoked it? Well there would be alot of happy hungry people out there.
A guy was using only god knows what drugs in his apartment in the center of the town. Suddenly he hears the doorbell rang. He looks through the peeking hole. He sees two bears he panics. He takes his gun (illegal gun) opens the door and shoots the bears. After this the guy runs out. There he sees lots of tigers about 20. He starts to shoot them and hits few. Few dies and few gets injured. After this the police comes and manages to get the guy.
K again im sry to say this, but that is a false statement created by the police to tell us not do drugs... It is impossible for anyone to see this... Even on shrooms, its only the small things you see differently, and that only involves things moving around, not imagining leprechauns and that stuff. The guy if anything, was probably poisoned, and a side effect was halucinations. This would of course lead him to believe a bear and tigers were outside, and probably the reason he killed them all with a shot gun was because of panic, which as well poison can cause. If he was a drug dealer, which you say he was, he probably ended up getting poisoned by someone who he f'cked over while in business. But then again, this is probably just some story made up by the cops, using animals to help with childrens imagination.
In the Netherlands you may buy drugs in coffeeshops. it isn't illigaal You only can buy in little amounts not 1 kg. In my town there was 2 coffeeshops now there is just 1 I think. I saw much French people going in the coffeeshop :P.
