I've been wondering about this since I recently moved, and after searching for better prospects gave up and stuck with my current service... I'm guessing most people do this.
I'm in the US, and I'm not sure how ISPs price and what is offered everywhere else, but here it seems to be all about the same cost for the same services (just like every other major market here, ahem).
The only provider offering different services is the up-and-coming company Clear, who has just signed a contract with Sprint (hence, the new 4G phone exclusively from Sprint). Clear's monthly internet offer seems like a better deal, unlimited internet access wherever there's a cellphone tower in cahoots with Clear. However, I don't know anyone who has actually tried it. I'd like to, but I currently have Quest's 7mbps package and run at about 2.5mbps. Clear's offering 2-5mbps, so I can't help wonder whether or not my service would come to halt with this service.
Verizon has a similar set-up now, but the only difference that I'm aware of is that instead of a USB card granting you access, a portable router/modem is used. Again, I don't know anyone who has tried this service out.
Does anyone know any more information or have opinions about this new service, or any ISP? What service do you have, and are you happy with it?
...Yes, let the government just take out their purse and spend it on free internet, putting thousands out of work and millions of dollars more on their 13 trillion dollar deficit.

Or the government could hire more people and provide cheap internet.
Wow, what would you do with 30mbps if it's not for work?
Well most of us would download multimedia heavy files of course. Games, videos, yeah.
And getting 20mbps or above costs a fortune in America.
For what I'm getting I pay 120 NZD (90 USD). Normally it only costs 90 NZD (60 USD) but I wanted more bandwidth so I opted to pay more money. Typical internet here at around 60 NZD (40 USD) will get you 20 gb. Har.
The only complaint I have is the restrictive capping. I'm fine with the speed. I am a very very heavy internet user and I could easily finish my entire allowance is a few days were it not restraint.
I am considering alternative ISPs. Seven years is a long time to wait for a network by the way. I hope the government gets work on this to be done faster. At least it isn't letting Telecom take charge of this.
I'm usually getting 17 mbps. That's no reason to complain, but the caps here are tyrannical. Normal caps are 20 gb or so. I'm fortunate to have 60 gb.
You poor, poor soul. I get FIVE gigs per month, with the provider issuing ~150 kilos a minute. And with the dang provider that can't extend the better service out of the kindness of their hearts, I get stuck with this low speed. And whats worse, if I go a tiny bit over, I get throttled down to 5 kilos. SHODDY.
I've got pretty good internet at 7.2 mbps and a 10 gig cap for each month - so I can't complain. Obviously, it's nowhere near enough for what I would like to do with it, but it's much better then dial-up - the pain of that is less then 3 months old... D:
Yeah, that's just my way of making Australia sound more awesome then it really is. I liked the name, and it's pretty much traveled with me as a location for the past year or so.
