So I'm looking for some new music. I like pretty much everything except for rap. My top bands are Wilco, Animal Collective, The White Stripes, Foxy Shazam, and The Flaming Lips. Anyone have any suggestions for me?
I'd recommend old Modest Mouse (meaning Moon and Antarctica and back, make sure you get through all the EPs, Interstate-8, Building Nothing out of Something), Arcade Fire of course(all three of their albums are fantastic), Neutral Milk Hotel(In the Aeroplane over the Sea), Fleet Foxes if you like indie folk(their self-titled album), and finally Built to Spill(There's Nothing Wrong with Love and Perfect From Now On are my recommendations).
I would suggest The Dead Weather the drummer form The White Stripes is in that band. Id also recommend The Black Keys if you like The White Stripes them im sure you will like these guys.
for those aware of my other posts i'm sure u know what's coming XD
I would suggest Stratovarius.... and Sonata Arctica. Stratovarius was my gateway into symphonic metal and SA kept me there lol. Stratovarius's eagleheart, infinity, and phoenix are all great. Its kind've an acquired taste. At first Timo Kotipelto's voice was a little weird but now he's one of my favorite singers.
Tony Kakko from SA is now my favorite singer/song writer. It takes an open mind to listen to SA's songs. Sometimes its hard to They have a variety of songs that represent just about any type of the metallic rainbow you could imagine. \\m/(O_o)\\m/ .... Honestly... if u listen to them and u don't like what you hear then i suggest you try several more b/c each of their albums is almost completely different from each other.
Fast songs - Blank File Wolf and Raven 8th Commandment Black Sheep The Cage
slow songs - Shy Letter to Dana Under your tree Tallulah
some mentionables - Don't Say a word San Sebastion Full moon Victoria's Secret My Land Paid in Full The Last Amazing Grays Misplaced juliet
To add onto Sonatavarius, if you want more metulz, I'd recommend Diablo Swing Orchestra and Cynic. DSO is a startlingly unique avant-garde metal band with two albms (I'd recommend their first album more, though) and Cynic is a technical death metal band that is amazingly creative and incorporates a lot of jazz elements into their music. I'd recommend Traced in Air from Cynic specifically.
some of them are acquired tastes but there are several gems amongst the other great pieces. this is my best of Kamelot.
Ghost Opera -The Black Halo (actual song off of album) -Rule the World -The Haunting (feat the lovely Simone Simmons of Epica ;-P) watch the music vid... sooo much better. might have to watch it a second time so that you can listen to the actual song. you'll know what i'm talking about when u get there lol **you'll want to listen to LOVE YOU TO DEATH first so that you understand his sads** -love you to death -Lost and Darned (not actually darned but the other more explicit term) -Karma -Forever -wings of despair -Center of the universe -Nothing ever dies
that's not in order of best to least best of the best... its in order of my itunes library. the first few were what hooked me and then recently i heard the last 7 and my mind exploded... true story. I'd suggest that you give the songs on this list a try b4 you turn your nose up to kamelot. Roy Kahn's style changes... or evolves rather from album to album so if you don't like THE BLACK HALO album then I'm sure you can find something of their plethora of song styles that will quench your musical thirst.
****another band is THE NORTHERN KINGS. I don't know the instrumentalists but (sonata and strato are both from finland) 4 really great finnish singers (Tony included.. and Nightwish's Marco Hietala :-P) are all a part of this band. I know it sounds dumb at first but The Northern Kings remake old 80s rock songs and give a new spin to them. I don't particularly care for the original songs but some of these are amazing.
for the songs that have music vids the vids are kinda weird and just make me lol... but the vocals are amazing... all 4 singers sing together in some of them and they pull it off really well. In others its just 1 maybe 2 of the 4.
mentionable songs include: We don't need another hero (all 4) Broken wings (Tony) Take on me (all 4) Kiss from a Rose (all 4) Hello - (Jarko Ahola) (insert any other name of song they've done XD)
you either love them or you hate them... such is the fate of the cover song.
