Funnily enough I just bought the Collector's Edition (Spore: Galactic Edition, for PC) yesterday. The game looks extremely fun, especially messing about in character creator.
I also have SPORE creatures for Nintendo DS, horrible game, combat is extremely flawed, the only reason the game is difficult is because of the neglected controls. Otherwise, creating creatures is a very fun affair.
I'll drop by with more comments once I get my hands on the fully-featured PC version.
Ooh spore! I never thought others know it. I loved the first two stages they're cool. i Just reached the tribe stage but seriously it's a pretty good game

Personally, the tribal and cellular stages are the most fun. Go through the tribal stage, ganging up and clubbing other species with sticks is entertaining beyond belief. After that everything tries to be in-depth whilst cutting out micromanagement and making the entire thing as accessible for everyone, so the later stages begin to lack anything new.
????????/what is that????????????
I'm going to take a wild guess and say you think you're a hardcore gamer because you own MW2.
I like to build creatures, I've probably spent more time on the creature editor than in the actual game. I even made a realistic looking bird-spider once T'was such a beauty.. And I rofl'd hard when I entered the center of the galaxy XD Invading foreign planets with your cool spaceship is fun too, and blowing planets up is always a treat^^ I just don't like the city stage, it's the least interesting thing in that game.
Back in it's development, it gathered a lot of interest among fans
It got really screwed up though because of the DRM controversy and many people refused to buy it. People also started an Anti-Spore campaign by spamming bad reviews on any site they could find.
It had other problems as well, but I believe it was the DRM that killed it. That's why it only got 1 expansion when many more were planned
I made a race that looked like my friend once. All he could say was "Dude I can't believe you sometimes." as soon as he witnessed my Galactic Domination.
I think the problem with Spore is that it has various different gameplays, one in each stage, and stays rather vague on each instead of going deeper on one stage. That's probably where the expansion is supposed to bring fresh wind, but I don't know cuz I don't have it.
I love the space age section. I'm an amateur astronomer so it's fun for me to see all of the classifications of stars and so on.
I wish there was a little more science put into the whole thing -- the humor is cute an enjoyable, but there really isn't the feeling of a grandly sweeping spectrum evolution that we were promised.
Either way, it's not a great game, but it is cute.
