I watched THIS video on FB the other night with Stephen Fry giving his reasoning as to why the catholic church is not a force for good. I agree with everything he says and openly challenge anyone to find fault in his reasoning.

Im not only putting this here as a challenge, its here so people can see it, so people might start to think past that which they blindly worship and so people can perhaps learn from this. Please only comment after having seen the whole video. I will watch the other speakers asap but I have washing to do

Is the catholic church not a force for good?

some evil must be present to worship good. im catholic, and there is nothing wrong with the religion or any other. simple as that.

Except for...
Wait...
Nah. I'm gonna stay out of this flamewar.
I'll just state this in a calm, respectful manner.
Except for all the murder it condones.

Really? The president doesn't know everything you do, he hasn't shared all your experiences, and yet he speaks for you at an international level. Same goes for the Pope - he hasn't experienced everything you have but he speaks for you on a religious level

While they speak for you they do not always say what you would say. The way you say this sounds like the leader is a reflection of all those under him/her. Untrue, especially for people who didn't vote for Obama.

People who are the heads of something like the Pope or the president might not speak for the individuals with in there respective groups, but do stand as the representative of that group. As such any positive or negative actions they take reflect on that group.

If we've decided that the pope is corrupt/evil then the whole thing must be too - if the Pope is the Catholics leader and chief dude in contact with your God, then he must speak for Catholics as a whole and so must his actions.

Whoa, whoa no not at all here. I'm an American and Sarah Palin was an American leader that doesn't mean that she spoke for me. Just because the organization itself is bad doesn't mean the individual is bad, Mr. Fry stresses the importance of this fact at the beginning of the video.

sounds like AnaLoG meant Christianity was an offshoot of Islam.

It is... and both are an offshoot of Judaism. There is no doubt in my mind on this one.

1 person doesn't represent everyone who is catholic.

Never said otherwise. Did you watch the clip?

Stephen Fry needs to take his hand out of his arse no one is perfect.

??? whats your angle, cos from this angle it looks like your head is firmly stuck up your own. Pull it out and have a think about what you say before you say it.

The pope speaks for his whole organisation, which is not all Catholics. So I agree he doesn't speak for the individual but I feel that the individual has a responsibility to speak out against the evils of the organisation that runs his/her religion. That in my view would constitute a true Catholic.

Christianity came before Islam - you can't be an offshoot of something younger than you. Just like you can't be the father of your older brother.

Ah... I stand corrected. I get so confussed with all these darn religions. Also I missbrained about Christianity and Islam coming from Judaism.

Wiki to the rescue.
