Marijuana has been used everywhere, dating back to almost 7,000 BC. Up until the early 1900s, the use of marijuana had been completely legal. It began to be banned in the southwestern states because of racial prejudice against Mexican immigrants. States across the US soon followed suit, for varied reasons.

The active ingredient in marijuana--THC, has been proven to be helpful medically, improving appetite, decreasing nausea, and in several other ways.

Some studies on THC have been conducted in order to verify if it has any negative side effects, some studies claiming it to be harmful, with users more likely to develop Psycosis along with increased blood pressure, while other studies contradict this.

Many users have largely protested, attemtping to make Marijuana legal again.

All in all, what do you think?
Does marijuana have any long term effects?
Should it be legalized?
Is the sole fact that it is illegal be enough of a reason for not using it?
What would the US, and the world be like with complete legalization of marijuana?

I think tobacco and alcohol should be illegal. Alcohol does a lot of damage on the community if it isn't consumed carefully (I know a crapload of teenagers who drink alcohol... Who are under 15...), and tobacco just damages your body (Again, lots of teenagers..) So why should marijuana be legal? (Lots of teenagers...)

Marijuana should just be a medicine to people with cancer or other diseases, but never for fun. Alcohol and tobacco should be too.

It's already illegal for anyone under 21 to drink alcohol, yet teens still drink. Just because something is illegal doesn't mean people wont do it.

Remember what happened the last time alcohol was made illegal?

And what about the people who do drink alcohol responsibly?

And why should people who are sick be the only ones allowed to smoke marijuana? Do sick people have this special immunity to the negative effects of marijuana that healthy people don't possess?

I agree with you with saying Tobacco should be illegal because it is addicting and causes cancer as a sure thing... Why tobacco wasn't made illegal when it was found to be addicting and cancerous, I have no idea... But I highly doubt it will be made illegal since it gives money to the economy, and its just such a big business now...
As for alcohol being illegal, that has a very low chance as well. Why? Well when it was made illegal before (in think in the 1920s), people still found ways to get it and it really just made life worse... Plus, unlike tobacco, you can manage alcohol... Meaning that it isn't nearly as addictive as tobacco because there is no nicotine. Plus, while alcohol does hurt your liver, if you have a beer or two every few days, then it won't hurt you... Where as tobacco can cause cancer with the first cigarette you smoke in your life...
Bottom line- I think tobacco should be made illegal, but alcohol should stay legal, but maybe they should put some limits on how much you can buy or something. However, both the tobacco and alcohol industries are so big that I would doubt that either will ever be made illegal.

As for Marijuana, I really don't mind it being legal for people that have gone through cancer treatment or something... Reason is because it really does help with the pain and stuff. Besides, its not like you can get it for a cold or something... As long as they put a limit on how much you can buy based on your condition, and its just for people with extremely painful illnesses or something similar, then I'm fine with it.

You just ninja'd me :/

The argument with this is that while the sick people don't possess some special ability to prevent them from getting the negative effects, they still have a reason to use it where as healthy people don't... Reason for that is because its supposed to help with the pain or discomfort that is being caused by whatever illness the person has.

Two reasons for healthy people to smoke marijuana; to release stress and to have fun.

Rather than keep marijuana illegal until people find a reason to smoke it, why not make it legal until someone finds a good reason not to smoke it?

As for cigarettes, they shouldn't be illegal because we should have a right to choose what we do to our own bodies.

We should say this for most if not all the illegal substances out there.

Why do we get new marijuana topics every single week? Anyway, here is the link to the well-established topic:
ALL THINGS MARIJUANA

So, continue the conversation there. I will move it to WEPR so, it will get certain types of responses instead of the tavern.
