I am fascinated by the origins of peoples names for a long time. if anyone would like to talk about their (first names only) names meaning and origins then well...uh..please do!
In case you couldn't figure it out, my name is Joe...I know who would have guessed right? I don't know where it came from, but I know why I'm named. I was named after my late grandfather who died of a hemmorhage when my mom was 10. Before, he was a carpenter and about to start his own business only never had the chance. Obviously, I never met him (my mom was 10 when he died, so I don't think that's possible)
English form of the Late Latin name Iacomus which was derived from ÎακÏÎ²Î¿Ï (Iakobos), the New Testament Greek form of the Hebrew name Ya'aqov (see JACOB). This was the name of two apostles in the New Testament. The first was Saint James the Greater, the apostle John's brother, who was beheaded under Herod Agrippa in the Book of Acts. The second was James the Lesser, son of Alphaeus. Another James (known as James the Just) is also mentioned in the Bible as being the brother of Jesus. Since the 13th century this form of the name has been used in England, though it became more common in Scotland, where it was borne by several kings. In the 17th century the Scottish king James VI inherited the English throne, becoming the first ruler of all Britain, and the name grew much more popular. Famous bearers include the explorer Captain James Cook (1728-1779), the inventor of the steam engine James Watt (1736-1819), and the novelist and poet James Joyce (1882-1941). This name has also been borne by six American presidents. A notable fictional bearer is the British spy James Bond, created by author Ian Fleming. The reason is that I'm the oldest, and since my parents wants the family's name to have a name start with D, my mother thought of the name, Dean. So, yeah, that's how I got my name.
Contrary to the popular belief, my name is NOT Frank. Seriously, I have no clue how that name surfaced. Freakenstein Frankenstein? Freak? Frank? Is that how it came up?
