Probably. I've seen a lot of music movies, and they always do that, some more than others. I think it's to make their legend bigger than it actually is. That's especially true on movies about musicians that have died. The Doors was completely overblown to a point where it made me sick and I didn't even watch the thing, Oliver Stone does that in all his movies.
