This has bothered me since I first started gaming with my boyfriend. It all started when we were playing Gears of War 2 online. He is a major Gear Head, and was obviously better than me. Thats an understatement A LOT better than me. One day we're playing online and he says, "Girls can't game! Look at your K/D." At that moment my blood instantly started to boil! A lot of my guy friends think the same way. So i'm just curious, is this really what the majority of male gamers out there think? Or is it just their way of taunting?
Nope, most male gamers do believe that girls cannot play video games, or completely disregard the thought that girls play video games whatsoever. I read somewhere, that statistically, a veteran woman gamer annihilates most gamers of the opposite gender.
It's just a common stereotype. Of course, he's owning you, he's going to be a bit cocky, he probably just lost it a bit.
First off, you don't need everything in bold. Answering your question, I don't think it matters if your're a boy or not. Boys probably play videogames more than girls though, which probably makes people think that.
The ratio of woman gamers is increasing. I started dating a girl last Thursday and she's a huge gamer like myself. We don't play Gears though, more TF2 and other 1st person shooter games.
He is sexist with everything, but i've noticed a lot of guys like that online. Even when I have higher kill / points. I guess most guys just can't accept a girl doing better than them in a male dominate thing. :P

I would say that it is either the majority view, or at least close to it. Gaming has been a stereotypically male activity for a long time, and although there are many female gamers, the stigma hasn't worn of yet. Personally I know a lot of female gamers, and thoroughly enjoy trouncing them, and I do use this type of comment as a taunt frequently, mainly because it works
answering the original question, the gaming world has and perhaps will be the main gamer sex, and nearly all my gamer friends are guys, which somewhat plays into the notion that girls ' ain't got no game' because of circle logic: most girls aren't too good at video games> A lot don't play video games> girls aren't good @VG. i have yet to meet ( or at least knowingly meet) a female gamer who completely whooped me, but i would be glad to face one ( not saying there aren't any good ones).
Same applies to the internet for the most part XD.
generally, girls do not game. And girls who try to game, usually suck. But female gamers are like old people, they come in two dramatically different varieties. Those who are utterly laughably bad, and those who are uber-l33t. My sister, who plays "Harvest Moon" and doesn't realize you can look AND move in an FPS is one of the many female gamers. It's kind of odd, how there is no such thing as an "Average" female gamer.
