I guess most of us know the testweek: one week where you get a test for all your subjects, in my case that means 2 subjects tested a day.. And this week, i'm in the middle of it

What do you think are the pros and cons for having a testweek instead of a period with tests?

We don't get our exams until the end of the semester. Which would make more sense.

Anyways, having a whole week means less(ish) tests in one day.

Pro: You can't just study like crazy a few days before the tests, or you'll fail big time. You need to actually know that stuff. This means that you're more likely to remember what you've learned after the test as well.

Con: Too many subjects at the same time makes it hard for you to learn them all, and too many tests in too short time might tire you out, and I'm guessing that by the end of the day your concentration is pretty low. All those combined will lead to a lower score than you're capable of.

I'm just guessing though, I never had any test weeks like the one you describe.

All tests in one week seems so stupid to me...over here in Sweden we have a period in the spring term with all the tests, and only some tests in the autumn.

Having all tests in one week makes you very tired, and if you study many subjects in one time, what do you learn?

I really meant it, after these test week ask yourself what you learned from every single subject, and then compare that with if you had had the tests in different periods and if you'd learn more or less?

I used to live in the Philippines, and that is how our exams were conducted. Two to three subjects per day for four to five days. We were dismissed from school at 11 am (we showed up at 7:30 am) or so and the last day of school that week would immediately be followed by the start of the next term or break.

I did quite fine to be honest. I've never had much problem with my exams, since most of the information is retained. I was never one for intense cramming, repeated rote memorization and poring over texts for hours in a dimly lit room.

The worst I did was probably for that religion subject. It was a Catholic school and we all had to learn about the church, aside from all the regulars concerning morals and ethics. Most people in the Philippines are Catholic, and the only good school in that city was the De La Salle one. To be honest, the score and grade I got weren't quite fail, but compared to the rest of my grades.. D:

For some reason we don't have serious exams here yet. It seems kids here first take them at Y11 (which is Grade 10 or whatever), which is next year for me. I wouldn't mind taking exams at this year level.

I remember Testweek, aka Finals. Right now though, my tests are scrambled, but that's expected, since these are independent professors we are talking about. We DO have final exams, but they aren't in a set week; some will be on one week, others on another.....

I'm from Argentina and here we usually have our exams in a two or three weeks period. However, in the last trimester my school was taken over by the students so we didn't have classes for almost a month, due to that we had all of our tests in one week. My grades were good but most of my classmates weren't able to study for every single subject in such a little time and failed.

So basically, final exam week? LOL

I'd prefer to have them all spread out, but when it's something as stressful as final exams worth huge percentages of your grade, it's usually better to just get it over with.
