So how many pages back do you look when looking for a thread to post in?

I'd say I go about 3 max and I usually only read the first two and last two pages of a thread before posting.

(Hope this isn't a repeat.)

As annoying as it is you have to create a new one or have a really good reason. I learned my lesson.

I always read the first page if it's a new thread, and continue some pages.

If I've posed before I'll go back to my last post and then read the latest posts (aren't that many usually...).

What? Are you saying this thread is a repeat?

No no, he's talking about his own mistakes. You're fine

I give myself about 3-4 weeks worth of pages to find a thread before posting a new one. Some mods say 5-6 pages before it's fair game, others say a month. Either way, if you post a thread when there's a thread < 3 weeks old, then prepare for some "duplicate" posts!

Three max? Are you kidding me? I usually look a dozen or two pages back and I also check using a custom Google search engine. Normally as long as I remember a substantially large thread being repeated, I'll revive the old thread. As long as I remember.

Lol, this isn't quite what I was asking. I usually do a custom google search ( what I'm looking for site:armorgames.com) when looking for a similar thread to see if my idea is just a duplicate.

I'm asking how many pages of threads/topics do you look back before deciding to post a reply in that topic? Like, how many pages of threads/topics do you look to see if one interests you (and then post in it)?

Now I understand you shouldn't reply to a 2 month old thread. But I find that I won't bother looking more than 3 pages (and rarely 3 pages) back before posting in a thread or seeing there's no thread I want to post in and giving up.

The second page, in the tavern, has topics that are only 1 day old. I couldn't consider replying to one of those as "reviving a dead thread". But, usually, if nothing on the first page interests me I just won't post a reply and will check other areas of the forum.

OH! That's what you were talking about. I was going to reply in that instance, but I wasn't sure.

I definitely look at the OP (opening post), that's a fundamental rule EVERYONE should follow. Then what I try to do is find at least two view points on the subject. If I'm posting in a thread that I haven't read for at least 10 pages, I look at the last two or tree because that's the results of what happened between those 10 pages. Get me so far?

So when I post there, come back, and there's 5 more pages, I go back to where I last posted, see any responses, and reply/quote from there. At least now I understand where the topic is going

Ah crap, I misread. I rarely misread. I usually look back a few days (five pages at most). I remember what and which threads were posted when, so I usually don't go too far back.

I always casually check the first and second page, since threads that have been posted in today also get pushed back there.

@OP

I remember one time going back 50 pages in the "This thread is currently about:" thread. That was a pain...

I don't know why I did it (bored I think), but it was kinda fun and it's easy if you have FastFox (or FastChrome).

I went 200 pages through the Forum Games section a few times. 'Twas fun.

I go back ten pages before I go "ehhh". Sometimes thought I go back even further just for the enjoyment of reading what people post.

I just got to the first page and then I read the last 2-5 pages... It depends on the topic!

I read every single reply. By that time I generally have lost interest and my opinion has usually been voiced. This accounts for my low post count. It also shows why I steer clear of some of the WEPR threads.

For me it depends on the topic. But usually, I will read the first 5-10 pages, and then read the last couple of pages just to see if there is some different, somewhat on topic conversation going on.

I read the first couple pages, then the last 2. And then post unless it is boring.
