Rats are nice. But I wouldn't be responsible if I kept one. I would probably just feed it every day and occasionally pet it but nothing to serious. I just see no point in having a rat for a pet.

Rats spread plaque, rats infect people with diseases.

If there is food on a baby, a rat will eat the food and sometimes kill the baby.

Rats spread plaque...

Whoa!! I always thought it was bad eating habits and not brushing your teeth that did that.

Uh huh. You seem to be ignoring the existence of domesticated fancy rats.

I was just thinking both those things. Yeah you know if you have bad breath just get a few rat traps or something. Your breath will be fresh and plaque free once the rats leave your house. My dentist always hands out one or two rat traps after every visit.

When I refer to "rats" I mean wild, un-domesticated rats. My mom had a pet rat when she was in college, and even though it was domesticated it still would bite her and my aunt.

I think mice are more likable. They are most often smaller and just seem all around more squishy. But then, why not just get a hamster or gerbil?

hamster or gerbil?

one of the two are extremely mean and either way their just stupid pets literally rats have a very good IQ for an animal their size

I'm fine with hamsters, and I'm not afraid of rats.
Rats are and forever will be pests in our world, I prefer hamsters cause they're more cuddly and fun to play with, and they will certainly not eat your cheese, pee on your face when your sleeping (they've got they're cage, right?) or even infest some of your drinks. Overall rats aren't that bad. Only the wild rats are, those are nasty and repugnant creatures of devouring manners.

That's why rat traps exist, you wouldn't like to wake up dead would you? so buy a rat trap if you think there's a rat in your house. No, don't buy the classic rat traps, maybe buy the gluey, sticky rat trap, it's more effective.

I had a rat ages ago, when I was bout 12, was one of the best pets I've had actually Was really tame and always sat on my shoulder, didn't bite, and didn't shit on me either, thank god, but I think the mouse I had is better, was a russian dwarf hamster, really really cute, that's probably why my cat ate it after we had it 6 months .. Looked exactly like this http://www.theanimalfiles.com/images/winter_white_russian_dwarf_hamster_2.jpg

Well, I want a rat if it's disease-free/doesn't bite/rabies.

I have a hamster, but he bites, and he killed my other hamster by eating his head. (Fighting I guess)

Hey, hey you have to decide which pet you're going to have, a rat or a cat, you can't have both, one of them is going to end dead.
