With the recent controversy surrounding Islam and the beliefs concerning it I have decided to create this thread in order to clear up some of the more foggy matters, especially where the conflict between Christianity and Islam is concerned. Now, those of you who know my view points on religion may find this strange, that I, an extremely atheist person, would be making a thread like this. I would like to clarify a few points before I open the discussion to my fellow Amor Gamers.
1. The point of this thread is NOT to debate whether God exists or not.
I'm guessing it all started around 1095 or a little bit earlier - with the first Crusades and all that jazz.
That prolly had something to do with it.
I for one have always found it very strange that two religions that are so similar would have so much hate for one and other. But maybe that the exact reason there is so much conflict.
Basically, they share the same holy land but neither group wants to share it with the other. See religious significance.
I would also make the argument that Israeli conflicts with surrounding Muslim nations may hurt the relationship as America (sort of "the" Christian nation) is so supportive of Israel's actions.
After WWII and the Holocaust, we busted Hitler and his regime, and rescued those that were trapped in the internment camps, mostly the Jews. Some had nowhere to go, yet they had the freedom to go anywhere. The U.S. proposed giving Israel to the Jews. The Muslims had already controlled Israel, but they compromised giving part of the land to the Jews.
They gave the GOOD land to the Jews and left the Muslims with the dead soil and desert. That's primarily why they are pissed at us. However, religiously, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all have the same holy land, which is Israel. They all have religious importance there.
Actually Christianity and Islam are both child religions to Judaism. This is why all three religions share the same holy land and many of the same myths. In fact, Islam even recognizes many of the Jewish and Christian prophets, especially Moses, as prophets of Allah. And, as some of you know, Allah simply means God.
Even Jews and Christians who speak Arabic call their God by the name Allah, just as a German Christian or Jew would call God by the name Gott. It isn't a different deity being worshiped, it's the same deity with a different translation in different languages.
Much of the conflict between Jews and Muslims dates back thousands of years, especially from the time of Muhammad. This conflict over territory created a great division between these faiths and as such spread to Christianity as it became a major world religion as well.
Well I assume it started when the crusades came and catholism was pushed apon the people of Islam and it has just stuck like that, as different as the two religons seem there not really that different.
Yep... Iv seen you use it once before. It tickled me in funny places. Exept muslims DO see jesus and ONE of the prophets, but since Mohammed came after they believe he is the one we should follow and listen to now. Hence the whole "muslims think the third one was the best" thaing.
Funny thing is I was told the Quran is the sequel to the bible by a muslim who worked in the local Indian shop. We had a great conversation.
Muhammad was a descendent of Abrahams son Ishmael where as Jesus was a descendent of Abrahams son Isaac. Isaac was the son that God chose to build his nation on. This caused conflict no doubt. These conflicts date back to biblical time periods.
