The U.S supreme court is going to decide soon on Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants Association. In California it's illegal to sell a minor a violent video game. If you're curious what the bill defines a violent video game as one that one that allows âkilling, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being.â
In my opinion the law is complete bogus. The Bible contains large amounts of sex and violence but banning selling it to minors would create an uproar. We shouldn't treat video games differently.
And frankly, if guardian's buy M-rated games for their children, they are basically saying "I understand that this is a mature game and by buying this game, I am exercising my right as a parent to allow them to play it. Therefore, I cannot complain about my children playing them on any aspect, because I bought it for them."
Kyouzou is right when i was four i was playing Halo CE and Final fantasy X i didn't imitate things on those but then again now i'm a gamer child so i'm not surprised
I find that video games are just a way for people to let stress go. Like really, if I'm pissed off, i know that I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMB1133S is only a few clicks away, and then I'm enjoying myself. It really does count on the maturity of the child though.
You know why video games are portrayed as a negative influence? The media loves negative stories, and since videogames normally do not make the news when an epic game comes out or some expansion pack sold 10000 units in 10 seconds or something, the media only focuses on the murders and plots based around teh video game community, that's where they'll get viewers, and video games take the rap.
