What event do you think, was the most important, the most astounding or shocking? Inventions play a big part in this thread as well as events.

Its not a surprise that the United States Of America has had a large affect on the worlds history as they have been a super power for the last 60 years

60 years isn't really that much, but okay... Surely the US influenced the last 100 years but there happened many things in the several thousands years before

That's funny, since America is part of British, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch history. Oh, and you're welcome. You know, for that part of America's history when we saved your butts from Hitler. But you don't care about that...

Well, we share a common language; might want to care a little bit more about that.

1. I would hold the life of all religious figures as extremely important world events.

2. The nuclear bomb being used on Hiroshima.

3. The rise and fall of the Roman and Greek empires.

4. The American revolution and many others that it sparked.

5. World War II

6. The Cold War

7. The 9/11 attacks

8. Various events dealing with the Chinese empires.

9. The invention of the Steam Engine

10. The creation of the light bulb.

11. The Enlightenment.

Meh, I could name more but these were on the top of my head.

Er...no. While America was integral in WWII the British held their own for over a year while the American populace hummed and hawed over the idea of another "European" war. In fact, if Japan had not allied with Germany the Americans most likely would never have joined the Allied efforts in Europe. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that Britain was supplied mainly by the Commonwealth for the duration of the war.

Well way to be ignorant about your own history. Britain COLONIZED America!

Er...no.

Err... Had the US not become involved it was very likely that Germany would have maintained control of the seas, and as such would have had sufficient ships to invade England. With so many British troops already in Europe it is very plausible that England would have lost a land war on their own ground. This is partly why the British pushed so hard for the US to land their troops in England and also why so many merchant marines and US Navy vessels participated in hunting and destroying the German fleet.

No-one saved anyones butts. Yanks have this delusion that they won the war (again) and Europeans have this delusion that we would have been just fine.

Hitler did far more damage to his chances that anyone else. He overstretched himself, was delusional and suspicious of even his closest friends and relatives. Hitler lost the war more than we all won it.

9/11 is not at all a major historical event. It's just that americans are super-sad that terrorism got to their doorstep. They still don't give a rats *** about terrorism in other countries.
