ak is less work better distance more reliable
More work, yes, you're right on that one.
Better range? I don't know what ak you've been using, but the M16 has the better range. Different variants of the M16 have longer barrels and they can easily be made into a sniper rifle while with an ak, you have to grab a completely different weapon. So no, M16 has better range.
Reliability? Depends on what you consider reliable. With an ak, you know where everything is, they don't jam. Only problem is hope everyone that uses one can read Russian because then you're going to have some fun figuring out what's safety, what's semi, and what's full auto. But someone who is trained with an ak won't be as good with different guns and ak clips only work with ak's.
With the M16, you know where everything is, they do jam, but only in extreme conditions. Not too sure about the select fire because I don't feel like pulling my airsoft gun out. But I do know that anyone who is trained to use an M16 also knows how to use an M4, SCAR, I think the XM8, and the ACR. M16 clips can also be used for different guns, such as the FN2000, all L85 variants, the SCAR, M4, and some others.
Now as far as guns in videogames go, I'm going with the M16. I think it looks cooler (as in it doesn't look like it was made from scrap metal. sorry, but the ak will always look like a clumsy special version of its Nazi father, to me), I find the iron sights easier to use on the M16, it's usually more accurate, and if there is full auto on any gun, I shoot in 3 round bursts anyway so I'm not 10 feet away from somebody and shooting all around him completely missing him because of the kickback, so the 3 round burst I see as somewhat of a plus.
