Harry Potter was/is/will be more anticipated than any Twilight movie, although they are nearing an end. The story is more enveloping and raw, plus the concept of the whole story makes sense and is coherent. And to say something that everyone can understand, Harry Potter had the freaky kid before Twilight did.

Frank pretty much got it in one. Plus the added fact that Harry Potter doesn't sparkle sunlight makes the story more appealing to male audiences.

Harry Potter isn't that good, but it's a lot better than Twilight.

Harry Potter is better.
Twilight doesn't really have substance, and is written poorly.
Harry Potter can also be enjoyed by a broader audience than Twilight.

I haven't read Harry Potter, but I plan on it soon.... If I can ever get my hands on the dang books...
But I guess you Guys don't get why gals like Twilight so much.
The thought of having this one guy you get to be with forever that loves you entirely is a fantasy for normal teenage girs. Thus the book was widely popular, as it also reached out to girls that have social life problems.

I am sorry, but I don't really see how these can be compared. The target groups are pretty different, the plots are waaaaaaaay different, and no wonder, so is the character, environment and setting.

I am not going to give an opinion on this, since I have only read (and enjoyed) the HP books. My siblings have read the Twilight saga, and seemed to enjoy them, my sister being the only one having actually read both series as far as I know, and she does not care to compare them. She likes both for their individual story, setting, characters... Because they are that.

And yes, one of these days I will sit down and read Twilight and thus become able to participate properly in these discussions... comparisons... threads.
Until then, I will torture you all with my questioning on the rights to compare two highly different things

(In other notes, they might share the over all genre, but the subgenres are not even the same, so it is pretty much like comparing spoons and cars because they both shine.)

Why oh why is this queston even being posed Harry Potter is the obvious winner. I dont hate Twilight but im not too fond of writing and theres not much action (well not much fighting action). The harry potter books arent the most consistent series in the world a couple are bit iffy but they are so much better than twilight.

Because they both have the freaky kid in it? haha I kid. But you have to admit, there are certain elements of the two series that are congruous. For example, they both take places in schools, where their friends all share the same abilities. They both host an assortment of freaky creatures, like werewolves and vampires (of course, they are people, but that's beside the point!) Last but not least, they both rebel against an organization.

Oh and they both have forests of death. Forgot that part.

Isn't Bella just a normal being in a normal school, and then there are these vampires there too, because vampires obviously does not learn as fast as others? As far as I know, the majority of the series does not actually revolve around school, while HP does.
And something about the organization as well, but that is mainly because I don't really see deatheaters as much as an organization as a bunch of henchmen for the dark lord.

And forest of death - -;

Whatever it comes to, it is like comparing me with the star wars sage because my armatar has stars in it, my username is weird, and I have watched the saga. (Just less bizarre)

Meh, I do agree that the two book series are different in general, but I believe the reason why people compare the two so much is because Twilight was going to premier (sp?) the same night Harry Potter was supposed to premier. However, they ended up switching the date of Harry Potter to a much later date of July instead of November I believe (which I was ticked off about at the time when I was really into Harry Potter, haha). And ever since, there has always been this debate of "which one is better".

Just so no one can say they hate the writer, Read The Host by the same author. I read THIS book before I read any of the twilight series.

I've never actually read Twilight or any other book in the series. I read a few pages of the first book and it interested me just a little.

I've read all of the HP books and they sucked me in when I was reading it. The plot was nice, characters are unique. Rowling has the ability to make you feel like you're watching a movie when you're reading.

Besides, you can't compare the two. The major thing that they have in common is that they are both Fantasy.
