Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. I don't get it. Aren't these just human emotions and whatnot? Why are they so bad? Wrath is just anger and if something happens that I don't like, odds are I will get a little angry. Greed, well, who doesn't want a little bit more than they already have? Sloth is being physically and mentally inactive from what I understand. So if I sit around on the computer mindlessly playing video games I'm going to hell? Pride is loving yourself. Doesn't sound bad to me. Lust I don't know if I'm allowed delve into in this board. Envy is another thing I just see as human. You have a computer with Windows '94 on it. Your friend as a shiny new computer with top of the line stuff. You'll want their computer won't you? Gluttony I can see as bad. You don't need to consume massive amounts of stuff. This is just my opinion on how I see these things.

What I find interesting is that the Christian god shows ALL of these treats at one time for another....
Regardless if they are natural or not, these sins are generally negative emotions that people feel. They are sins, rightly so.
Wrath is just anger
What is an excess of anger.
Greed, well, who doesn't want a little bit more than they already have?
Greed is frowned upon when one does not ever wish to give. Do not confuse want and greed, they are not the same thing.
Sloth is being physically and mentally inactive from what I understand.
Lazy.
Pride is loving yourself. Doesn't sound bad to me.
If your proud of yourself, then you feel highly of yourself. It's a sin to feel so highly of yourself that you feel as if you are above everyone else.
Lust I don't know if I'm allowed delve into in this board.
Many a woman has caused great strife. Love is about caring, it is not about sex alone. This is the point that is trying to be made.
Envy
Basically, it's a sin to be jealous of others. If you want something that someone else has, it doesn't hurt to want it, but you can't want it so much you feel actual anger that they have something you want.
Gluttony I can see as bad. You don't need to consume massive amounts of stuff.
Ironically, the least serious of sins in my opinion is the one you seem to agree with the most.
All of these sins are negative. These are traits you generally do want to avoid in your life for good reason. Of course, the seriousness of these sins can vary person to person and in some cases these sins become people's trademarks, their lives, something that is seen in a great light.
If moe was here, he would probably be able to share some wisdom on different ideologies of human characteristics and what not. There are many different philosophies when it comes to people and their actions. The seven deadly sins are just one example.
My point is, these things are generally bad, mmkay?
I'm not going to say that these things aren't generally bad, but they are things that you do want to avoid. If you are completely devoid of all of the seven deadly sins, please check yourself into the nearest mental health facility because you clearly are not human. The trick to being a good person is not quelling all these emotions, because that's impossible. It's exercising a little self-control and containing them. There's a difference between being angry and smashing someone's face in because you're angry. Being angry is a part of life, you can't get along with everyone, but I think it becomes a problem when you act on that anger. In the same thread, there's a difference between being lazy, not wanting to work, taking a break, etc. and just plain not doing anything. As I see it, taking a break, resting, etc. is more of a self-reward for doing the work than anything. So basically what I'm saying is that although these things are bad, experiencing them is just a part of being human. They only become a problem if you act on them constantly. And I will also jump on the bandwagon by saying that God was the biggest hypocrite ever if he said never to do these things.
Greed is frowned upon when one does not ever wish to give. Do not confuse want and greed, they are not the same thing.
Actually NoName, I believe the trait you are referring to is selfishness. Greed is normally described as wanting more than you already have.
Why don't you look at the NAME of your thread again, hmm? It's the seven DEADLY sins. Too much wrath, which as noname explained is excessive anger, will lead you down a road to death. Too much greed, will lead you there too. What you, AgronakGroMalog, just did, was put the basic human emotion root of these sins and said they weren't so bad.
I will get a little angry
want a little bit more
It's not that you will go to he'll as much as it is you will get too lazy and when you need to be in top physical condition to survive, you will die. Pride will get in the way of survival as well. You won't want the help of others trying to help you because you think you can live on your own, which will more than likely result in your death. Lust..... Well if you get what you want, you'll probably get some STD. And that's not very good if you've got aids or something. If you want toooooooo much of what other people have, you might forget what you need in the first place. I think the only reason you saw gluttony as bad was because you said it is in massive amounts.
when you need to be in top physical condition to survive, you will die.
In today's society I see no situation where you would need to be in top physical condition or die, unless you were in the military, in which case they would whip you into shape anyway.
Pride will get in the way of survival as well. You won't want the help of others trying to help you because you think you can live on your own, which will more than likely result in your death.
How? I mean, sure, if you refuse everyones' help you will probably be miserable, but how will this result in your death?
Lust..... Well if you get what you want, you'll probably get some STD. And that's not very good if you've got aids or something.
This is true enough, but there is a counter. Just because you are lustful it doesn't mean you can't wrap it up.
This is true enough, but there is a counter. Just because you are lustful it doesn't mean you can't wrap it up.
It also doesn't mean you will actually do anything. I could me just wanting to do the horizontal mambo with someone.
Wrath This is an uncontrolled anger, being in a rage. In general this isn't a good thing, however there are times when it is justified. This can even be used in means of survival, since being in such an agitated state causes an increase of adrenaline allowing for increased strength at the cost of control.
Greed This is an excess desire of wealth and goods or power. In terms of a social community this isn't very, and usually makes the person look like a "donkey butt". From an individual perspective if you don't mind being a "donkey butt", it can benefit to some degree since you will have the money to afford pretty much anything.
Sloth This one has actually changed in meaning. This can be an emotional apathy or negligence (usually in respect to God), waste due to lack of use. Today it's neglecting to do something you should. This can become a problem.
Pride This is thought to be the source of the others. This is just having a heighten sense of one's status or ego. In terms of it being a sin this is usually thought of as being to the point where you devalue others. Taking pride isn't a bad thing so long as you don't take it to the point of being a "donkey butt" about it.
Lust An excessive desire for sex. This can sometimes lead to some problems, otherwise not that big of a deal.
Envy "occurs when a person lacks another's (perceived) superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it." Seems pretty normal. I don't see it saying that it's required that one desire to the point of being angry.
Gluttony To gulp down or swallow, to the point of over indulgence or over consumption. In terms of sin this can also refer to doing so to the point of withholding food and drink from those who need it. Doing this constantly can be a bad thing, though is overindulgence once in a while really that bad?

In the possibility of the end of the world being any day, at any time.
How? I mean, sure, if you refuse everyones' help you will probably be miserable, but how will this result in your death?
If you had a family offer you food, and you said NO. I can get my own! And then you couldn't get your own and by then everyone else was faaaaaaar away, you would be DEAD.
This is true enough, but there is a counter. Just because you are lustful it doesn't mean you can't wrap it up.
Doesn't protect against everything all the time though.
If you had a family offer you food, and you said NO. I can get my own! And then you couldn't get your own and by then everyone else was faaaaaaar away, you would be DEAD.
...What situation would that occur in?
In the possibility of the end of the world being any day, at any time.
Are you referring to nukes? Being fit won't save you from them, or there after effect.
Doesn't protect against everything all the time though.
Most things, most the time. And do to the relative rarity of such occurrences, there isn't really a chance of to much bad happening.. The worst one that would actually be likely to happen would be pregnancy, and the condemn has to break first... And even then, there are solutions.
You might have a point on the lust part. Though I can't remember the passed but I think I remember something about God wanting a good sum of riches gathered by his followers. So I guess that could count as greed.
These sins were created, not by god, but by the catholic priests who wanted to control the lives of the commoners. If they limited what someone could do, it strips a lot of freedom, making the clergy a bit too powerful
Catholics also have this thing against indulgence and self-pleasure. w/e. hail satan.
