Today at 4:30 North Korea fired on South Korea with artillery and destroyed a few buildings and killed some people, South Korea has retalitated with fireing back and scrambling f16 jets. There has always been tension between the two countrys and North Korea but do you think that this was intentional? Somthing this small that could be a accident could start a full scale war.
According to this South Korea were pushing the boundaries and it sounds like it was almost definitely intentional and may continue for quite awhile. I don't believe it's going to turn out another Vietnam, if anything we might end up with a situation similar to Afghanistan... But modern-er.
America supplying South Korea to fight North and China would South even stand a chance against China. China does not use sheer numbers as tactics anymore.
It would be a bit worse then Afghanistan. North Korea has nukes,a 9 million person army and a huge navy and airforce. If china joined in ww3 would start and everyone would die. So its slightly better to just let North Korea be and hope they eventally collapse under a weak leador.

As I just heard it, it's North Korea who is claiming the land of the island that was bombarded for itself. "South Korea pushing the boundaries" is then nothing more than North Korea's reason for bombarding innocents.
Honestly, North Korea and South Korea are always getting into little spats around the border. They hate each other. There's always a little bristling of the fur and some threats, but really, no one wants to start WW3, here. Basically, what I'm saying is, wake me up if the DPRK actually invades the DMZ. Otherwise, this happens a lot, and nothing ever really comes out of it.
The Chinese aren't exactly... let me put it.. retarded. What makes you think they'd unquestionably join North Korea in a suicide mission? I don't think they'd like to have most of the Western world against them. It doesn't mean they wouldn't support North Korea in any manner but I just think that it's unreasonable to assume the Chinese would immediately leap into a pool without assessment.
I'm always watching if anything happens, but I won't be taken aback until another war erupts.
I really wouldn't worry about it too much to be honest. The US military has a very strong presence in South Korea, and there have been small skirmishes along the DMZ for years. This one just happened to be reported to the media somehow, but it's not the first incident like this and it won't be the last.
