Last.FM is basically a website in which you make an account, and from there proceed to list all artists that you like, making a list. It "scrobbles" music you listen on your iPod or Computer (or even xBox) and registers it on the site, and this way people know what kind of music you like, what bands you listen to the most, etc. It also makes "radio" stations based on the bands you like, a particular band, or a common tag/genre (examples: Metal, Progressive Rock, Electronic...). So yeah, it's pretty sweet.

The one above is mine. From there you can check your own music and the site tells you how similar are our tastes (Very Low, Low, Medium, High, Very High or Excellent). So yeah, I highly recommend the site to everyone.

Kind sounds like spyware to me. They hook up to your xbox, computer, ipod, etc. and figure out what your listening to so it can tell you what you like to listen to???
It doesn't automatically hook up to everything. If you turn on scrobbling, it'll look at all the music players you have it set to look at and it'll record the songs you play on your profile. If you plug in your ipod, you can have it sync played tracks from your ipod. The xbox thing is built-in with xbox live and is also optional.
