Now I know abit about god and christianity(duh.. I am a christian)
Now the thing is atheists say that god doesn't exist. but how many of them say things like oh my god or the like in their every day life? if they say that, then they need someone to unload their feelings, and clearly they choose god, so are they really atheists?
I'm not saying things like oh god are a good and religeus way to unload stress and feeling, that is what prayer is for.
If someone grew up hearing the people around them say 'Oh, Goblins!' when something bad happened it doesn't mean they are claiming a belief in goblins just that is the phrase the relate to when something bad happens.
Haha, made me smile^^
I agree with you and all others who said that, I mean, it is nothing more than a relique of our way to learn things, especially language, and that is by repeating stuff others do/say without understanding it's meaning at first. Afterwards we may realize we used the word god in some exclamations, but we never wished for a god to dam people, we were just being angry and expressing that by using a couple of words everyone knows the meaning of.
Now the thing is atheists say that god doesn't exist. but how many of them say things like oh my god or the like in their every day life? if they say that, then they need someone to unload their feelings, and clearly they choose god, so are they really atheists?
The real question is can Christians say OMG? The fact that it is a widely used saying makes it fine. I could say "SHIVER ME TIMBERS!" but wouldn't that get funny looks? Now back to my topic, one of the major rules of Christianity, and one that they DON"T ignore, is "though shalt not take thy god's name in vain", so really, its fine for atheist to OMG, but Christians shouldn't according to there ancient text.
They spend an awful lot of time worried about something that apparently doesn't exist. Except for 314d1, who's parents DEFINITELY never hugged him.
Its better than what your parents did to you....
Now what would I say besides OMG? OH MY SCIENCE! I STUBBED MY TOE!? There are some profanities that would work in most cases, but apparently "Holy ****" and "Holy ****" are both also taken by Christians, so really we don't have much a choice in what to say according to you.
If that's a contradiction, then I can't imagine what an atheist saying 'oh my God' is. It's like a christian saying 'allah dammit'.
I just have to say... no it isnt. Allah IS god. Same thing dude. Christianity and Islam follow the same god, so it would be like saying the same thing.
And I dot think this topic is done and dusted. Its a petty argument to begin with and it got a sound thrashing within the first post. In the nicest possible way
*sigh*, this is why you're a programmer and not a scientist, manny. As everyone else has already stated, saying OMG is not saying "god definitely exists". Also, there are tons of other ways of unloading stress and feeling...like ranting about religion.
Some view saying things that can possibly have a religious tie as no more than a common used phrase.
Definitely. I still say Oh my god, even though I don't believe in a god. Which is kind of weird, but I can't erase thirteen years of using this phrase.
Now I know abit about god and christianity(duh.. I am a christian)
It would sadden you to know how little people actually know.
Now the thing is atheists say that god doesn't exist. but how many of them say things like oh my god or the like in their every day life? if they say that, then they need someone to unload their feelings, and clearly they choose god, so are they really atheists?
It's a common phrase to express anger that has been carried from more religious times to now. There are alot of things we say today that reflect past attitudes. They are now morphed into something completely out of context.

I don't believe I agree with that sentence in many, many ways. But I won't go into depth.
If that's a contradiction, then I can't imagine what an atheist saying 'oh my God' is. It's like a christian saying 'allah dammit'.
Interesting, because Allah means "God" in Arabic, so yes, Arabic Christians still pray to "Allah". In fact, Allah and YHWH, the Judeo-Christian God, are the same exact being. So when you pray to God, you're also praying to Allah.
