now... by definition this thread is going to be teetering on a razors edge. lets try and not get carried away so that this doesn't get locked and/or deleted...

Being that AG members consist of a plethora of different nationalities I'd like to have a mature discussion. Personally, I am an American who was raised in south Mississippi (Katrina clean up was fun btw). I would like to know what the rest of the world's.... and nation's... views are of Americans in general and/or their views of the Americans that hail from the southern states. The media often portrays the world view of the US in certain ways and I would just like to see if those views are truly held by other people. If they're bad or somewhat negative stereotypes, but they're presented respectfully then you'll have no qualms with me. It takes someone trying a little bit harder than that to offend me.

....and if you would like to request what the outside view of people that live where you do is then with respect I'll tell you my first impression when i hear that region mentioned.

I would like to keep this thread up and going so that we can learn from our multinational brethren. so that we may correct any problems we have and make better first impressions with the people we meet in life. In this way we could all help better ourselves...

I won't just start defining nationalities or regions just yet... i'll wait and see if any one is interested first
( and if i gets a lock :'( )

All I know is that I HATE playing video games like Halo of COD against Americans. Ugh. Most I come across act ignorant/unintelligent and are extremely rude.

Also, I hate how Americans think that Canadians do all this crazy stuff when we don't. No we don't have metric clocks. No, we don't have skiing in the summer in Toronto. It's gonna be just as freaking hot as New York.

During my forays into the states, I have found that on average they're more overweight (scooters must make a killing there), and all their fast food sizes are one or two larger than ours. And they're loud

Granted, I still have tons of friends who are american and don't fit that, so no I don't think all Americans are like this. Just that a few are the voice for all.

for a little while... i used to think that all canadians actually said "Eh" at the end of all of their sentences...

its true... alot of our people are over weight... but not all. I used to run for my college's track and cross country teams. I'm ~6 foot tall and was 145lbs (170ish lbs since i got injured ....). I was doing 70+ miles a week :'(.....

i think there are lots of extremes when it comes to the US... we're either health freaks or we just don't care. but maybe i'm wrong.

its sad that i can get a double quarter pounder from McDonalds (combo) and still feel hungry. ...mississippi is the fattest state after all

Yeah I'm glad i live in Canada. Better climate, less people, gorgeous landscapes, and most of all, less tourists.

It's why I liked Cuba before Obama was all like "yeah Castro ain't so bad now" (Duh...)

Well, UK stereotypes. I have to say I mean no offence before I start.

When we were asked in a History lesson what comes to mind when we hear the word American, well, the answers were: fat, obese, lazy, McDonalds etc. And there are many situations like this where Americans are mocked bad as hell, like say, in Personal and Social Education, the teacher said that many deaths were because of some sexually transmitted disease because the soldiers slept with prostitutes, my friend shouted out 'Well, they're Americans. That's understandable!'. Or jokes like 'In a few years Americans will be so fat they'l have to make the cabins in the fighter jets bigger.'.

As you see, America is laughed in many ways and at many times in school life and most, if not all, stereotypes are negative. But I have a friend from America, but loads of people like him.

I think Russia is much more like here though. There is much less negatives about Russians. I also have a Russian friend, but he thinks both the UK and US are dumb. I would agree with the point about English being dumb(btw I'm a polish immigrant), but I have no evidence for the US, but the general idea in Poland is England is dumb but America is dumber.

When I go to Poland every summer they call me a tea-b*****d, kind of annoying, seeing as I am polish and not english.

As I said: no offence, those are just stereotypes. I have no evidence to judge the americans.

Everyone makes sterotypes about everyone else. In UK we think south USA is full of religious inbreeding idiots with guns, Poland has no one in it as they are all here and Canada is just a worse empty version of the USA that we used to own. But the rest of the world has loads of sterotypes about us it doesn't matter there is very little real hattred for any other country, and we rely on other countrys for there huge armys, trade or a workforce.

Stereotypes are a bit odd in my case. Even though I think that Americans are dumb, I never think someone is dumb because he or she is American. So I guess I sort of have some prejudice against Americans as a people, but not against Americans themselves.

Loud
Unintelligent
Obnoxious
Short attention span
Fat
Very fat
Morbidly obese
Stupid accents
Stupid clothes
Hicks/rednecks
Overly religious
Racist
Far too patriotic for their own good
Cheerful
Smile a lot
Inability to distinguish between a British and Australian accent
London, England syndrome
Tendency to think that all England is London
Not terribly good at geography in general really

Jon Lajoe WTF Collective- MC Canadian Stereotypes. LOL

Too many of them for every race, South Park dosen't help with stopping them but it is a funny as hell. Some can say All Americans are fat, "oh yea Canada ehh'? Fish and Chips... it goes on.

I'd just like to add that my viewpoints reflect none of the above - I was merely pointing out the stereotypes that I'd often found associated with the USA. I find it strange why people should think most of these though - like the 'unintelligent' stereotype, anyone have any idea where that came from?

Maybe it was the video on YouTube "Americans are not Stupid" It showcased possible the dumbest Americans and asked them basic questions, which of course they got wrong. At least I can distinguish "Oi a dingo ate ma baby mate!" to "Ahh Fish and Chips! Tea!"

^^^ Not trying to be offensive just proving a point... with stereotypes.

Not exactly make fun of it, but we do mimic your accents from time to time for the lol's. It's all in good fun, though.

Fat American: Om NOM NOM "I love McDonalds!" Om NOM NOM

You got me there; I may not be fat, but I love McDonalds. What can I say, it tastes good. Only problem is that some Americans just sit on their butts after eating, so fat builds up and makes the rest of us look bad. xP

Now...the shield of liability.
NO OFFENSE INTENDED. AND ALL OF THIS IS PROBABLY NOWHERE EVEN CLOSE TO TRUE.
Big List'o'Stereotypes

The Aussie: ****** who plays rugby, maybe not too big in the brains department. Everything in Australia is poisonous.

The Brit: Drinks tea...a lot. A bit snobby and prim, but otherwise okay.

The Canadian: Loves snow, it's always cold in Canada, loves hockey and curling, is violent, says "ehh" all the time. Watch this video, it's hilarious and perpetuates American stereotypes as much as it does Candians xP.
