I've been playing Trumpet for nearly 8 years. My biggest challenges were State Solo and Ensemble and All State Honor Band in late '09. Those were some magical times. I wish I could do some more of that, but my college doesn't have any musical programs.

That's kinda sad I think. Many schools all over the US are getting rid of music programs. If it wouldn't been for my school's program I wouldn't have learned to play anything.

That's pretty darn impressive. I'm not nearly that good at trumpet, but I can make some sounds and play some scales.

How long have you been playing trumpet? It says you're sixteen, so..if you started in middle school that would be..3-4 years?

I get that comment a lot, I never thought it was particularly difficult, but then again I haven't tried any of the other brass instruments except the euphonium, which was kinda cool in an oompa kinda way.

My main instrument is piano, which I've been playing nearly 20 years. Recently my (musician) brother got me onto this thing called a melodica, we've formed a melodica duo lol.

The idea with the french horn is that there are many, many pitches that can be played with the same keys. My friend who is in IU for a Biology degree showed me just how difficult the french horn was. He took one key and he could play various pitches and half-pitches. So my guess is with playing the french horn, it is difficult to get the correct pitch down when holding down the correct key. Of course breathing and full amounts of air blown into the instrument is all it takes for any note to succeed. This is also coming from a guy who plays one of the easiest instruments ROFL

I always had a problem with my finger movements (using both hands) when playing the piano. Although I can play a few scales, I'm rather slow at doing them.

I had no idea what that was until I googled it, but I've seen those before. Those look pretty complicated to play. It looks as though if you're good at piano, you could be good at the melodica.

I've played trumpet since I was able to join my school's music program so that's been almost 4 years now.

I've been fully focusing on the trumpet for as long as I can remember. It's really the only thing in the world I'm good at. I've been playing for 7 years now, since I was in 4th grade, only in school band, I've never done Regionals (which is really competitive) or out-of-school wind ensemble, and I really, really, REALLY regret that because I would have been much better than I really am now.

Yeah, All Regional or All District Honor Bands are fun. Next year you should definitely sign up for it. You have no clue how fun it is until you sit on the chair and play with high school geniuses and realize you're one of the best in the district. Funny story actually. It took me FOUR YEARS to get Trumpet 1-A in All District. I didn't care about All State, but you feel just great when you're the head of a district.

One of my friends actually invited me to one of her Wind Ensemble rehearsals, and I was allowed to play during it and everything, and it was then that I realized how bad I was. No kidding.

Sorry for double post (I hate double posting but I seem to do it a lot) but I don't actually consider myself bad, and I never have. It's just that when it comes to playing the trumpet, I have incredibly high standards for myself and I'm way too hard on myself when I make even a minor, unnoticeable mistake.
