I recently received an iPod Touch from my dad for Christmas. It is refurbished but it works just fine. It is a third generation iPod with a 32gb memory card. On the version, though, it reads 4.1, so I don't really know what that means.
I tried jailbreaking my iPod Touch on BlacRa1n. I opened it on my computer and then plugged in my iPod to it. I clicked on the Windows and it downloaded but than said asd.ll error. I thought it wasn't compatible with my iPod Touch due to the version so I decided to use LimeRa1n. I got passed entering recovery, which was what one of the tutorials read but that's it.
It said in the message box "HOLD HOME + POWER" so I did that. Then It said "RELEASE POWER BUT HOLD HOME" and I did that. This message came up that said, "RETRY: HOLD HOME + POWER" and I kept doing that but it wouldn't leave. Finally, I decided to abort. My screen was stuck on the image a USB jack being connected into iTunes.
I googled everything and all I can find is the advice to hold down the home + power button and it should work, ut my problem is different. Theirs are stuck on the Apple Logo while mine is stuck on one of the steps to jailbreak.
I saw on a YouTube video by CNET on how to jailbreak and it said to download the program from your iPod Touch or iPhone. Is that what I should've done?
What should I do? When I enter restore it does this two hour update to version 4.2 that, from what I've read, drains battery life. I don't want to have to return it or lie about what happened to it. Help!
Well you can always click "restore" on your Itunes. Btw, you should know the risks with jail-breaking. Everything free has its risks. Btw having free apps is kinda stupid. Your enjoying the app without supporting developers that took time and money to make it. About free music and movies, its alright, Apple has already paid the artists so the only people losing a bit of money would be Apple, but then again you paid 200$ for it...so, yea...
just because something is legal doesn't mean you should do it. This just serves you right for trying something that apple doesn't support and they won't fix it because as soon as you tried to jailbreak it the warranty is dissolved
If it's legal, why notdo it? If you don't have any advise, then don't post in this thread. You are pretty much spamming.
It's just too much work for me to ever jailbreak it. They always fix and come out with a new release, so why bother?
I wanted third generation specifically so I could jailbreak it. They have more apps on the jailbreak for BlackRa1n than any other generation.
4.1 is the iOS version you have, I think it's actually up to 4.2 now. It's fixes and updates to the software.
Okay so it's the version not the generation. So this is third generation with version 4.1. Is there second generation with version 4.1?
Totally fixed. I just had to restore it. My music is gone but to upload my music it takes like five seconds so I don't really care. Now, I'm going to try the BlackRa1n and find asd.ll.
Wish me luck. Thanks a lot Darkroot, I owe you one.
Not really. what he's saying is still relavent to the topic at hand. It is about jail brekaing. His advice was don't do it.
I'm asking what to do after the problem has occurred, not what I should've done. I know what I should've done.
Alright, so heroine is legal in portugal, so why not go do that?
I always said it and always will, I will smoke marijuana only if it is decriminalized.
Anyway, since I don't want to derail this topic, how do I open it? It asked me how to open it and I just clicked on the Adobe Reader but it couldn't open and then I tried Notepad. How do I do it?
The solution to this problem, as regards the implementation of Blackra1n is quite simple. It will simply copy the executable of the tool designed by GeoHot Common Files within the directory located within Program Files. More precisely, the paths to copy the executable Blackra1n depending on the version of operating system currently in use are:
Windows 32bit: C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Apple\\Apple Application Support Windows 64bit: 64 Bit â" C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\Apple\\Apple Application Support
Once copied Blackra1n in the right path you can run it from there or create a desktop shortcut to solve the problem calmly and run the jailbreak.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!!!! When I googled how to open .dll files it said to view them in Notepad or Wordpad and I did that. This it says to copy paste it, what is it?
Okay so it's the version not the generation. So this is third generation with version 4.1. Is there second generation with version 4.1?
O.S version are limited to OS version. I believe first and second generation go only to 3.2 or something.
Wish me luck. Thanks a lot Darkroot, I owe you one.
No problem.

Your not supposed to open it, it's a file extension. Just right click blackra1n and create a shortcut to wherever you want it and copy and paste the application to the source of the .dll file and then use the shortcut you created to run blackra1n. The program itself doesn't look for the extension so you need to place it in the place the extension is for it to be able to use it.

Why not? You just dance around the question but never give an answer.

Done, but it just says running. How long am I supposed to wait? I've waited 30 minutes.
I can't really help since I don't really know what I'm working with. But there are plenty of step by step tutorials/instructions on youtube on jailbreaking with blackra1n.
EDIT: A message popped up just as I sumbitted my recent post. It just said something about this was the simplest jailbreak ever. Now it says in the geohotRC3 Done, wait for reboot. I accessed the home page but none of the apps are there? Is it supposed to reboot on its own or what?
You should have used greenpois0n for the jailbreak, now if you restore you have to restore to the latest version, 4.2.1. There is no unteathered jailbreak for it. There is a teathered, but that means every time you turn it off it has to be pluged back into the computer to turn it on jailbroken. Unteathered is you can let the battery die and turn it on and its still jailbroken. You can still do the greenposi0n jailbreak, it tell you how to put it in dfu mode. Heres the link. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q5D1MWU8 and here is a tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zbg--YKiDc
