I recently received an iPod Touch from my dad for Christmas. It is refurbished but it works just fine. It is a third generation iPod with a 32gb memory card. On the version, though, it reads 4.1, so I don't really know what that means.

I tried jailbreaking my iPod Touch on BlacRa1n. I opened it on my computer and then plugged in my iPod to it. I clicked on the Windows and it downloaded but than said asd.ll error. I thought it wasn't compatible with my iPod Touch due to the version so I decided to use LimeRa1n. I got passed entering recovery, which was what one of the tutorials read but that's it.

It said in the message box "HOLD HOME + POWER" so I did that. Then It said "RELEASE POWER BUT HOLD HOME" and I did that. This message came up that said, "RETRY: HOLD HOME + POWER" and I kept doing that but it wouldn't leave. Finally, I decided to abort. My screen was stuck on the image a USB jack being connected into iTunes.

I googled everything and all I can find is the advice to hold down the home + power button and it should work, ut my problem is different. Theirs are stuck on the Apple Logo while mine is stuck on one of the steps to jailbreak.

I saw on a YouTube video by CNET on how to jailbreak and it said to download the program from your iPod Touch or iPhone. Is that what I should've done?

What should I do? When I enter restore it does this two hour update to version 4.2 that, from what I've read, drains battery life. I don't want to have to return it or lie about what happened to it. Help!

Do I have to revert it back to 4.0? I want the untethered jailbreak. I saw the tutorial and it doesn't explain to you how to download GreenPois0n. The link you gave me s a bit sketchy and I don't want to harm my computer. It seems better but all the extra info he put down there means nothing to me. I now know my iPod Touch is third generation but I have no idea about the firmware. It said version 4.1 is not unlocked for GreenPois0n and I don't know if that means it will be tethered or not. Also, what is DFU Recovery Mode?

- For iPhone 3G, use redsn0w (i have videos for mac and pc)

So I shouldn't use GreenPois0n but RedSn0w.

- This is an untethered jailbreak it doesn't matter if you are MC or MB model.

What is MC and MB Model?
- 4.1 is no unlocked yet, so do not update

I had to update or else I couldn't restore my iPod. This is from October so I kinda want to know if I can jailbreak for 4.2.

I have to wait. There really is nothing to do with the iPod without a jailbreak other than listen to music. If I wanted an MP3, I would pay $15 for it.

Ugh, I have a 4th generation and it doesn't work with my mac now so either i get a 3rd generation ipod or get a new disk drive for 300 bucks. So now i have to wait and see what best buy's return policy is.

Greenposi0n, Redsn0w, and Limera1n all work on fourh generation. Plus, you're going to have tobe more specific. What do you mean it won't woke with you're Mac?

If you read the rest of the thread, the problem was solved. Now which jailbreak did you use and what firmware do you have?
