Mine is #5. I've played 1,2,4,6, and 8, but none of them had nearly as lengthy a storyline, nor as varied and engrossing as number 5. They also ported #5 to the DS, so there's an even better chance to try it out. The SNES version isn't as confusing, but there isn't as much "extra stuff" as the DS.

when i bought DQ4, i had a choice between that and the 5th. if its as good as you say, i should have picked it.
