I'm not saying the guy wasn't a Great Guitarist, He deffinatly had huge influence on Music and his improvs were great. But, to be honest, I don't think he's thee Single greatest guitarist ever, he's way up there, sure, But not the greatest. I know I'm going to get some bad feedback, but I can take it.
I believe he is overrated, yes. I do believe he was a great guitar player, but not as great as he's made out to be. I think there are much better guitar players out there than him.
I have a personal preference for a "cleaner" sound than what Jimi typically put out. If my preference was for a "dirtier" sound, then probably Jimi would be my favorite.
My feelings towards him have been inflated due to the fact that he is constantly shoved down peoples throats and said to be the ultimate guitar god, when in reality, that's a personal opinion. I don't fault anyone for believing he is the best of all time, but don't bother trying to make me think the same.
True, though I'm sure he had a custom lefty bridge put in.
Its not because of the speed of playing or technics,
Well of course, if it were all speed, every metalhead guitarist and their brother would rule the top 10.
To me, it's not the skill, it's the songwriting ability. You could write the world greatest melody using only 4 notes (A Hyperbole, may or not be possible).
We can all agree Jimi Hendrix was talented, whether you don't like him or not, consider him the greatest of all time, he was talented. You can't take away from him that.
I have to say, he was talented, but his playing was a bit sloppy. He was very influential, yes, but he's been outdistanced by more recent guitarists. I'd say that he's up there, but overrated.
He is not. Jimi Hendrix is the one who revolutionized guitar playing, played around with hundreds of unseen techniques, invented real rock guitar. He was not over rated at all, and in fact he might be even under rated. He doesn't even keep the volume of his guitar high in most of his songs, and you miss out on the real genius behind: Voodoo Child and Hey Joe.
Hendrix is one of the most overrated guitarists ever. He was a very sloppy blues rock player. He really didn't do anything complicated or complex. I believe his early death is what has made him as iconic as he is (the same as people like Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin).
There are numerous people who are/have been much better players than Hendrix and have done more for the guitar world than he ever could.

lol you got to think of the time era. this was in the 60s. the stuff he did with a guitar nobody had ever seen before, its not to complex NOW but back then he was the bees knees.

i know, and im sure lots of others do also, that doesnt take away from the fact that hes not overrated, what he did for rock guitar was greater then ANY other rock guitarist. he INVENTED many of the techniques we currently use today. he was an icon.
