DISCLAIMER: This is my opinion. I do not care if you like my opinion or not, should you disagree with my opinion then do so sensibly. This thread is meant to bash certain genres of music. This isn't spam because it is a reasonable topic to discuss. You have been informed and warned.

2010 is almost over, and thank god for that, because this decade has seen the death of music as we know it. I'll give credit to the year 2000 for not giving us a world of fail, but that's when it really started. It's like we've gone back to the 70's and 80's of one hit wonders, except this time the music isn't all that impressive, in fact it's complete and utter crap. Let's wind back the clocks to the one hit wonders, one of my favourites is Video Killed the Radio Star. Now, someone is inevitably going to pick up that I like this song, but am bashing other songs for doing what this song does, which is repeat the same lyrics over and over again. However, unlike today back then that song required something I call talent. Let's move on.

Rap. Let me explain this VERY carefully to you rap fans. Rap is NOT music. Rap is poetic verse filled with swearing, degrading women and whining on how hard life is. And yet these rappers are millionaires. Not only is this hypocrisy, it's stupidity worthy of a politician. Rap can't be classified as music because what's making the music? There is no music it's a beat and there's rhymes, most of these rhymes either are forced OR they DON'T RHYME! Seriously someone like 50 Cent should not be idolized as a "great artist" or a "great musician" these people slaughter language simply to make a new language that doesn't even make sense half the time. TALKING TO A BEAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU'RE MAKING MUSIC! It means you're reciting terrible poetry.

RnB. Also known as rhythm and blues. The problem with this genre aside from making terrible songs that talk about being rich or some strange love affair or something a normal person cannot comprehend? There's a lack of rhythm and last time I checked, most the songs do not qualify under the genre of blues.

Techno. It's a machine making sounds. More strange talking to beats. End of story.

Pop/Whatever Lady Gaga and them are. Where do I even begin? Justin Beiber, Kesha, Lady Gaga and whoever else has risen from the Land of Failtastic Music. Again as with rap there's no music here. You plugged in some sounds, made a techno beat and began talking to it. I could pull Joe Average from the street and do the same thing with him if I desired, then throw it on youtube and watch as the great mass of stupidity that is humanity applaud him for his "wonderful music". Not only does this genre require the barest of minimum talent it also makes absolute NO FREAKIN SENSE. For example Kesha and I quote "I wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy". On what level of sane do you even qualify that as...well, anything? I'm not adverse to some lyrics not making sense for instance Our Lady Peace has some strange ones. Take their song Carnival one of the lines reads: "Sign says yoga class for cats" however there's a song behind that line, and some type of meaning. Kesh and company have yet to show me anything but, well I'm no longer sure. I'm out of words for this genre, it's beyond anything I can remotely understand. How it's classyfied as music remains a mystery.

So, what happened to how music used to be? You know bands that got together, had some form of skill vocally and intrumentally and had to prove that they could actually create music. Think back to the 70's, 80's and 90's all those rock bands, and yeah the origins of techno and hell, even rappers had some form of music back then. But now it's as if the world of music has degenerated in finding either the strangest people, or those that look like plastic and having them talk to a beat about things that don't even make sense. I'm just glad guys like Our Lady Peace haven't left us quite yet.

Music is not dead. You have to be very ignorant to make such a claim. True, while rock, pop, and hip-hop music is a sham of what it used to be, there are still many great artists making wonderful music. To find it, you have to look for it, because you sure won't hear it on KISS FM or see it on the top Billboard charts.

This thread is sad. I don't like any of that which you listed, though I am saddened to see that you did not bash metal. You could not give me lulz? You couldn't? All proper bash threads must bash metal. Always.

Anyways, with the exception of rap, I must make the solid claim that all of that you listed is music. I don't find rap music because a beat and spoken words are a poetic reading to a beat, not music. A lot is crap, some is good, but overall not a fan. This is just my opinion of course.

Mainstream music is going downhill fast. Metal is doing pretty good, so I could care a less. It saddens me, however, that 90% of people listen to such pathetic excuses of artists as Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, and others of that poppy genre. It makes it hard to find musical common ground, a ground I find important in any relationship. It confuses me greatly when people at my school discuss these people, and I must shake my head and sigh, thinking that there are far better artists within the given genre that they could discuss.

Oh well, hope for the best in the coming decade.

If mainstream is going downhill... I hope there's not much more to fall.. I can't handle anything worse.

Alt, We should talk about some indie bands.

@madgamer131

i really don't like techno or electronica that much at all, but recently i found one of these gems that i just love. did you see that recent youtube video "Filmography 2010"? well i found teh first song from that video Nostrand by Ratatat LISTEN TO IT. notice the synthesizer layers, combined with the real bass guitar, and guitar layers. if you can listen to the entire thing and honestly tell me that it doesnt sound creative at all, then the music isn't the problem, it's just your inability to accept other genres of music as actually music.

I agree that alot of the mainstream stuff is crappy. and i agree that metal is thriving...or atleast its still rolling out the greatness left and right. I say let the other stuff fail... maybe one day those people will evolve brains like us and will see that metal is where its at and metal will have finally usurped those brainwashed with the beiber fever and all will be right with the world... truly... there are tons of great musics that have come out this decade.

Look at
Van Canto
Sonata Arctica
Kamelot
Epica
Heavenly (french band...not the other crappy one itunes mistakenly gives you upon searching for it)
The Northern Kings
Cains Offering
Stratovarius
Nightwish (liked Tarja more... but Dark Passion Play wasn't bad)
Tarja Turunnen (as a solo artist)
Symphony X
Firewind
Hammerfall
Within Temptation (....i'm not sure its metal but its Epica'esque)

i mean all those bands/artists are still doling out greatness here and now so other music might be dying but Metal lives on
