Update: On CNN Robert Gates admits Chinese technology is further ahead than our intelligence agencies thought since the article was first released! Ruh Roh (in my scooby voice)
Actually we would be, without too much difficulty. The primary issue would be that costs would rise due to the requirements in wages and benefits to all workers on US soil. Which is the primary reason that US companies are outsourcing production to Asian nations. We can pay workers less for the same work which keeps production costs low and increases profit. We don't need to outsource, it's just cheaper
As you said, you won't be able to produce everything yourself because the standards of living are higher, hence not everyone is willing to take a paycut.
I never knew the US stood for peace.
Nor did I.
Until that changes, I doubt that any nation would have a military base on US Soil.
Meaning to say a base near the US like Cuba. It's just a corrections of Maverick's post.

Please quit attributing positions to me which I do not hold and have never claimed to hold. I have never said that we could not produce the products, only that it would be more expensive to do so. This will result in an increase in cost, however it will also result in an increase in jobs. Increased production costs are prohibitive to production, only an undesirable situation. If it came down to it, be sure that we could live without all the outsourcing, we'd just have to have fewer amenities.
Nor did I.
Then perhaps you shouldn't apply such attributes when you yourself retract your position only several posts later, such as in this quote from you from the last page:
And the same US who claims to stand for peace but has 20 major wars in its 200 year history.
Again, I don't recall it ever being asserted by anyone that the US "stands for peace". Yet you attribute this to us in your previous comment. So which is it then?

Slight confusion because the reply was cut by a day. The statement was made in a fit of emotion. Retract my statement, not for peace.

Ok, clarification. If it's too expensive, it is possible, but not plausible. Either way, the US does not have all the resources needed. By the current standards of living in the US which are pretty good in some places, I don't think many people would like to take a pay cut to reduce costs of production to increase production.
I can't remember where I read it but I seem to recall China being more than just a little upset with the Somolia pirates during the summer of '10? It would stand to reason that they would take every advantage of their economic boom to ramp up their military. It also wouldn't surprise me if the US, Japan, Korea and China put heavy pressure on these Somolia renogades and quietly make them disappear. Gates would be wise not to spill the beans until actions are set into motion. This is pure speculation on my part but I would think the meeting between China's soon to be retiring president and Obama would include such talks. Considering the US current financial situation we still owe a tremendous debt to China and it would behoove us to quickly repay this debt and remain the world superpower. That's a status we can ill afford to lose.
The only reason China could ever take over is just their sheer size! They could attack the world, but what I think is going on is that they simply don't want anymore bloodshed. I mean think about Japan; oh yeah let's go bomb them: oops there goes 2 of our cities. Also as Maverick4 said having a super large army is not always a good thing. Their giant size does not let them train their troops like the US can. So if anybody asks I say no China will not take over.
Either way, the US does not have all the resources needed.
When did we go from amenaties to resources?

Your assuming that everything will stay on its current trends, except the price of goods. Whats more likely to happen is that common goods' prices will rise, which will mean that the value of the dollar will increase. Thus, people would be getting paid. People would be holding jobs due to the US making its own goods, thus more people are getting paid, thus more people are spending in the economy, and boosting the overall value of the dollar as business and consumer confidence would rise.
