You just have to write a thorough in depth review that targets what the game is, what is good about it, and what could be added, along with any bugs or things like that that you noticed. I feel fairly confident I could get one if I wanted to..but, somehow virtual points don't seem like such a big deal to me :P
Of course they give out merits in excess! The users just have to get off their bums and make good reviews! And participating in a contest is no easy feat either. Yours must stand out amongst the competition and truly define what the contest's theme stands for. Review making for a game that stands out is much easier than winning a competition, methinks.

I can't really agree with that. Seeing that in some of these flash games I've seen magnificent reviews that cover everything about the game in great detail. And those comments haven't received any merit. I've gotten one off of a game review and have made many other game reviews on some games and it doesn't seem to work well.
But that doesn't mean you can't try. You can try your hand at game reviews or just go to the AMW forum. I suggest both.

If you are good at certain things then it will be.
For contests: If you win, you're guaranteed a merit prize. That's if you win. There are many times that you won't, if your entree doesn't stand out.
For reviews: If your review is discovered, you will get a merit prize if a mod approves it. Your review will always be there, whether it is approved or not. This means that any of the mod team can find that review and decide to merit it. And since that review is there, as long as it doesn't get deleted, it will always be an "entree" for meritship.
Plus there's thousands of games. Thousands of "contests" if you will.
