I'll usually look for other highly ranked players.
Do the same mostly, look for a room with anyone with >50% win ratio, level doesn't matter (as a lot of GM's just play on guest accounts.) However, even in those cases that leaves probably 3 people getting left in the dust. Even with a room with 4 excellent players a new guy will join in and just be obliterated. Poor guy
I played someone yesterday that was 500-500 and I got first place on Marathon then he left the room.
Some people really care about the winning thing. This guy with 500-500, I see him usually and I always beat him in the first race, then he leaves. He wants a perfect 1000 wins record though. Or in other rooms, a gm that is not good plays with me and then I win 3 in a row, he swears me and leaves. So that is why I always let some new guys win sometimes and teach them some things (I don't know many so I teach the few I know)
I'll usually just play as a guest to practice some levels or do tricks.
The only real time that I do login is when someone asks me to play them for racing, otherwise - I'll just play as guest. I never really win as a guest, I'll usually finish last or not finish at all because I just run around the maps a lot. xD

I don't usually play as a guest. I play loged in or as "null" to practice some maps. However, every time I log on null I get Marathon and that is frustrating. By the way, I didn't see any good guys recently.
I don't see a point in playing as null to practice when you can simply just get on the map as guest. OR you could disconnect your internet so that you're on the map alone, if that's what you want.

No one good really plays anymore.
The only good player that I played on multiplayer yesterday was Ray.

But usually when I ask to the players in the room to practice and not finish they finish in 30 seconds so it is not enough time to try out the things I want to.

Read the latter.
I miss Darwin
He still plays, just really late at night, mostly.
Oh now I get it. Sorry, I am distracted playing Pogo Swing. However, I think I will stop playing for a while, it got boring to me and the only thing is funny is the uniplayer mode. But that level 29 cut is freaking hard.
